Mirfield League Matchday Preview

Mirfield League

Week 2 of the Mirfield League fixture programme is tomorrow and we have the ultimate 'derby' match in Division 1 as the two Lower Hopton teams face each other. Both teams lost their opening fixtures last week so both will be keen to get one over on their club mates and open their 2021 account. Thongsbridge A and Crosland Moor both won their first matches of the season and face each other tomorrow whilst two of the other leading teams, Crossgates A and Denby Grange A, both have to travel looking to extend their winning records.

The top four in Division 2 are separated by one point and all are on the road this week. Leaders Kirkheaton Con A go to Brighouse Sports whilst Pudsey B, Whitkirk and Woodlands Park travel to Alverthorpe A, Spen Victoria A and The Harold Club respectively.

Division 3 leaders Ossett C&AC have a bye this week and will inevitably be overtaken by at least one of the three teams sat just two points behind them in the early table. Two of those three meet up as Rothwell BC have home advantage over Dodworth MW. Cleckheaton Sports A start their delayed opening to the season with a trip to Horbury WMC who are still smarting from their opening day whitewash defeat at Osset.

The top three in Division 4 all have away fixtures this week against teams who lost their opening day matches. Leaders Thornhill are at Lowerhouses, Ossett Flying Horse B at Kirkheaton Con B and Broad Oak B are at Denby Grange B. Farsley didn't play last week and will be the guests of Mirfield Old Bank who are also looking to build on their opening day victory.

Alverthorpe B and Marsh United both had winning starts to their Division 5 campaigns but one of those records will go this week as they go head-to-head. Whereas one of two teams who both lost last week will put that dismal start behind them when Cleckheaton Sports B have home advantage over Cowcliffe Liberal.

Rastrick will be looking to add to their opening day 10-0 whitewash win in Division 6 when they travel to play Bradley & Colne. Two teams with opening day 7-3 wins meet up at Almondbury Liberal when they host the Thongsbridge B side.

Division 7 leaders Shepley will expect to make home advantage pay when they entertain Thorpe Green B whilst at Springwood the club's B team have a 'home' advantage over their A side in the first of their two 'derby' matches this season.
