Veterans League
Preview of the Match of the Day in each of the 5 Divisions of the 10-Man League
Div.2: Milnsbridge 'A' v Brockholes 'A'
As we hit the business end of the season some matters could soon be finalised and the first of those could be the first team to confirm promotion. That could happen in Division 2 where Milnsbridge 'A' have led the way all season and the right results this week could see their promotion confirmed.
Certainly, they will need to win their home match against bottom-of-the-table Brockholes 'A' and a repeat of their June 8-1 win at Brockholes would go a long way to sorting that out. Then if New Mill 'A' don't get a big win from their home match with Slaithwaite then Milnsbridge could be in business and surely the title will follow shortly after that.
Div.1: Lockwood Con 'A' v Lindley BC 'A' Lockwood Con 'A' are the defending Division 1 Champions and they are timing their end-of-season run in to give them the best chance of an eighth successive title. Now 8 points behind the leaders Golcar Lib 'A' with a match in hand and a home match this Tuesday against lowly Lindley BC 'A' could trigger their push to the top.
With their main rival, Golcar Lib 'A' playing fourth-placed Elland C&BC 'A' at home this Tuesday it could be a pivotal week in determining the outcome of this year's destination of the Teddy Pearson Trophy.
Div.3: Springwood v Golcar Lib 'B' I've selected a match where the result could have significant impact at both ends of the Division 3 table this week. Springwood are fighting for their Division 3 lives with 2 wins in their last 3 fixtures to give them hope of passing at least one more club in the table and lifting themselves out of the relegation places. In contrast Golcar Lib 'B' are emerging as promotion candidates after winning 5 of their last 6 matches and now sitting third with a game in hand over the two teams above them in the table. They may be helped by 2nd placed Holmfirth 'A' having to travel to plat 4th placed Skel Windmill this week as all the top 5 teams carry realistic hopes of moving up a level this year.
Div.4: Lindley BC 'B' v Outlane The top 5 teams in Division 4 are separated by 9 points and two of those 5 meet up this week. This division has seen more home wins than any of the 5 divisions in the league with 5 of the teams only losing one home match all season, Lindley BC 'B' being one of those 5.
Outlane are the form team in this division having won their last 7 matches and having won more away matches (4/8) than any other team. An intriguing encounter with the leaders Meltham 'B' at home to Milnsbridge 'B' and Ravensknowle Park having gone off the boil last month so lots at stake.
Div.5: Holmfirth 'B' v Marsh Lib With the Division 5 leaders, Kirkheaton Con 'B' holding a 21-point lead interest swings towards the second promotion place chase. Marsh Lib hold that position at present but 4 teams have a vested interest in chasing that spot which will ensure promotion. A big win at bottom-of-the-table Holmfirth 'B' could send out a strong message to their rivals about Marsh Libs' intent to move up a grade next year. Anything less than a convincing score could send out waves of encouragement to the other contenders.
