Veterans League
Five Match of the Days in the Veterans 10-Man League for Tuesday 30 August
Once again we look for the top match in each of the 5 divisions of the 10-Man League to provide a more in-depth match preview.
Div.1: Elland C&BC v Lockwood Con Last year these two teams finished the season in 1st and 2nd positions in the final league table. This year they currently stand 3rd and 4th. Of the two Lockwood Con are better placed to move higher being just 6-points behind the joint leaders having played a match less. There is nothing the Elland club would like more than to derail the title hopes of their old adversaries whilst overtaking them in the table. Neither team is in their best form of the season but so established at this level are both teams it would be foolish to underestimate the chances of either team progressing up the table. The winner of this match may prove to be the stronger candidate to further progress their claim.
Div.2: Almondbury BC A v Milnsbridge A The top two teams go head-to-head with the away team holding the advantage by having a 21-point lead at present. They have won 6 of their last 7 fixtures, the last three by the same 8-1 scoreline. Whereas the Almondbury team have only won 3 of their last 7 matches as the hold they held on the second promotion place has started to be relaxed.
However, when they met on the last day of May it was the visiting Almondbury team that came out on top by 7-2 and they will be looking to complete the double as the chase for the second promotion place grows even closer.
Div.3: Linthwaite Hall v Springwood Top versus (nearly) Bottom with neither team assured of anything at present. Springwood moved off the foot of the table last week after winning two matches in 3 days last week, the first time they have won 2 matches on the bounce this season. Linthwaite Hall have won 6 of their last 7 matches including their best win of the season away at Denby Dale by 8-1 last Tuesday.
Div.4: Outlane v Ravensknowle Park It is 2nd v 3rd who are in competition for the second promotion place although 4th placed Lindley BC 'B' would contend that they are very much in contention too as they are being only a point behind the Outlane side. Outlane are the division's form team having won their last 6 matches and moved gradually up the table. The Park started the season strongly and led the table for several weeks however they have slipped up recently and have lost 2 of their last 4 matches, one of them 0-9 away at Primrose Hill Lib. With Lindley BC 'B' just behind this pair by a point and with an away match at bottom of the table, New Mill 'B', this week the threat is very evident.
Div.5: Kirkheaton Con B v Kirkheaton CBC The Kirkheaton derby match is the most attractive fixture on a pretty barren four-match week in Division 5. The two B teams are having very different seasons with the Cons having collected almost double the points that the Cricket Club have amassed but derby matches always bring a different perspective especially when both teams are full of local bowlers. Forecasting anything other than a home win would be brave but the Cricket Club would enjoy delaying their opponent's promotion party.
