Marsh Utd B & Slaithwaite are new table leaders

Veterans League

Review of the 6-Man League results of matches played on 26 June

Summary: Marsh United 'A' continue to set the pace in Division 1 and have stretched their lead to 9-points whilst the club's 'B' team take over at the top of Division 3 on a better 'Aggregate For' score as do Slaithwaite who are the new Division 2 leaders.

Marsh United 'A' consolidated their position at the top of the Division 1 table with a 5-2 away win at Netherton Con 'A' who were losing for the third consecutive match after a winning 6-match sequence at the start of the season. The Marsh team were the only winners in the top three and that enabled them to open up a 9-points lead over reigning Champions Shepley 'A' who lost 2-5 away at Skel Windmill 'A' who move up a place to fourth as a result. Third placed Golcar C&BC also lost their away match at Brockholes 'A' by 2-5 to contribute to the leaders increasing dominance in the table.

Things are becoming very congested at the foot of the table for the second relegation place with four teams within one point of each other and in danger of joining Elland C&BC in an end-of-season drop. That quartet of teams played each other this week with the two away teams coming out on top to set up the unlikely one-point concertina of four teams. Longwood won 4-3 at Milnsbridge 'A' after a 75-75 drawn aggregate outcome. Lockwood Con had a commendable 5-2 away win at Crosland Moor who currently occupy that second relegation spot but there are clearly a few more twists in this tale before anything gets sorted.

Slaithwaite are the new Division 2 leaders after their 6-1 home win over struggling Skel Windmill 'B'. They swap places with Paddock I&C who drop to third place after losing 2-5 at Clayton West whilst Lindley Lib 'A' remain between the two teams after a 5-2 home win over Denby Dale who remain in the relegation places although this was an improved outcome for the new team in the league.

Lindley Lib 'B' made it four wins on the bounce with a 7-0 whitewash victory over Linthwaite Hall who drop into bottom place as a result. Holmfirth 'A' won the mid-table tussle with Milnsbridge 'B' by 5-2 and another mid-table encounter saw Golcar Lib consolidate their position with a 6-1 away win over Almondbury Lib.

A big win for the Thongsbridge 'B' team could have sent them to the top of the Division 3 table but instead they drop a place to fourth position after losing to the club's 'C' team 2-5 who earn local bragging rights as a result and move up four places to be one behind their clubmates in fifth spot. That was a surprising outcome considering that the 'C' team had only beaten one team, bottom of the table Shepley 'B', in their previous five fixtures whilst the 'B' team had won 6 of their last 7 matches. No giving way here to allow their clubmates to benefit from a friendly push in the right direction. The two Marsh teams both won their matches this week to retain the top two positions in the table but in reverse order as it is the United 'B' team that emerges in top spot after beating visitors Primrose Hill Lib 6-1. They are only top due to a higher Aggregate For total over the Liberal Club side who won away at Meltham 5-2.

A 6-1 home win for New Mill over Greenhead Park was enough to lift them four places to third and the Park side drops two places to 10th. Brockholes 'B' won the meeting over the bottom two teams to leave Shepley 'B' well adrift and 10 points behind their nearest opponents. Hemplow had a good 5-2 home win over Holmfirth 'B' to shuffle up a place to 9th in the table.
