Marsh United hit top form and retain only 100% record

Veterans League

Review of the Divisions 1 & 2 fixtures played on Tuesday 25 April

Well one 100% record in Division 1 had to go when Lockwood Con 'A' hosted Marsh United 'A' this week and it was the visitors who registered an unequalled 8-1 away win. That is the biggest home defeat for the Lockwood Con side in the last 10 years and probably longer.

The Bowlsnet records only go back to 2014 and in that time there has never been a hint of such a scoreline although Marsh United 'A' did complete a League double over the Lockwood side last season and have been a bit of a bogey team for the seven times winners of the Veterans 10-Man League title.

A day to remember as both the 6-man and 10-man teams from Marsh United win away at the league leaders and extend their unbeaten starts to the season and whats to say against them going on to a season long title double. Time will tell.

There were two more 8-1 scorelines in the top division and Golcar Lib 'A' totted up one of those when they saw off Longwood and enabled them to return to the top of the pile. Meltham 'A' clocked up the other 8-1 win over Elland C&BC to add to their previous 9-0 home win. The home form is especially important to Meltham's hopes of staying out of the relegation places as they have only won 2 away league games in the last two seasons.

Cowcliffe had the only other Division 1 away win this week when they inflicted a second consecutive home defeat on Clayton West and are rewarded with a second place position in the latest table. Very unlike the Clayton West team of recent years they have now lost both their home matches and won both their away matches to date this season. Rastrick go third after beating Kirkheaton Con 'A' and Lowerhouses had a first top level win when beating Waterloo 7-2.

A 6-3 home win for Lindley Lib 'A' over Linthwaite Hall enabled them to extend their lead at the top of Division 2 to three points. That was aided by Lindley BC 'A' losing for the first time when going down 2-7 at New Mill 'A' and allowed Netherton Con 'A' to pinch second place after a fourth straight win this time by 8-1 over Bradley & Colne. Holmfirth 'A' also had an 8-1 win and a first win of the season over visitors Hemplow 'A' whilst Almondbury BC 'A' had a first win of the year and the only Division 2 away win of the day when winning 6-3 at Thorpe Green. Shepley 'A' completed the programme with a 7-2 home win over Broad Oak 'A' to remain very much in contention at the top end of the table.
