Marsh United and Slaithwaite are Champions

Veterans League

Review of the 6-man League fixtures played on Monday 11 September

Marsh United are the Division 1 Champions after this week's 7-0 home win over Netherton Con sent them 16-points clear with only 2 week's matches still to be played. Congratulations to the Marsh team who added the Division 1 title to the Division 2 one they claimed last season.

Skel Windmill 'A' came up as runners-up last season and still hang on to second place this season after winning 4-3 away at Shepley 'A' who look likely to hand over their title from a 4th position finish this year. The runners-up spot looks to be between Skel Windmill 'A', who have a 4-points lead but only one match left to play (away at bottom of the table Elland C&BC), and Golcar C&BC who had a 6-1 home win over Brockholes 'A' on Monday. That takes them 4-points off 2nd place with a match in hand over the current resident in the runners-up place.

Meanwhile at the foot of the table, Elland C&BC are expected to be mathematically relegated next week but who goes down with them is still between Longwood and Crosland Moor. A 5-2 home win for Longwood over Milnsbridge 'A' was enough to lift them out of the relegation places and overtake Crosland Moor who lost 2-5 at Lockwood Con. One point separates the two drop contenders who both have 2 fixtures remaining.

Slaithwaite this week added the Division 2 Champions title to their already gained promotion despite going down 3-4 away at relegation-threatened Skel Windmill 'B'. There are three serious contenders for the second promotion place and all won their matches this week. Lindley Lib 'A' are favourites to make an immediate return to the top flight as they hold a 6-points lead over their two rivals. That matter could be resolved next Monday as the Lindley Lib 'A' side have a home match against Golcar Lib with their two promotion rivals both playing away.

Lindley Lib 'B' and Paddock I&C remain in the frame due to having big home wins last week with Lindley Lib 'B' pushing Linthwaite Hall back towards the relegation drop zone after a 7-0 victory and Paddock I&C won 6-1 over Clayton West. It is 2 from 3 to go down with Linthwaite Hall just out of the relegation places occupied by Skel Windmill 'B' and Denby Dale.

New Mill are promoted from Division 3 after nudging Greenhead Park out of the running with a 5-2 away win. Only Marsh Lib can deny them the title now although their immediate priority is to gain the 4 points from their last two fixtures to seal the second promotion place after beating Meltham 6-1 on Monday. Well done to Shepley 'B' for gaining their first away win at the season when extending Brockhole 'B's winless home record to double figures.
