Review of the 6-Man League fixtures played on Monday 25 July
Well done to Linthwaite Hall in clocking up their first Division 1 win of the season at the 13th time of asking when beating Longwood 5-2 on Monday. Having gone down to Longwood in the reverse fixture in May by 3-4 with a 3-point (87-90) aggregate loss determining the outcome, this fixture smacked of a real opportunity to break that duck and so it proved. Still, that hasn't disheartened the Hall team as they continue to fulfil their fixtures with a full team every week and I am sure that they have enjoyed this first success. This result could raise hopes of climbing off the bottom of the table especially as they are
just 5 points behind Lindley Lib 'A' who they still have to meet at home.
It is too big an ask to see them avoiding relegation but maybe things could pick up for the new boys and prepare them for a better season next year at a lower level.
Despite that big win Linthwaite Hall are no nearer to survival as Lindley Lib 'A', one place above them, also won beating Crosland Moor 6-1. There was a surprise home defeat for Golcar C&BC losing out to Milnsbridge BC 2-5 and that allowed leaders Honley Con, 7-0 winners over Thongsbridge 'B' and Shepley 'A', 6-1 winners over Brockholes 'A' to open up a bit of a gap at the top of the table.
A 5-2 away win for Netherton Con at Lockwood Con enabled them to move up to 4th place from 6th swapping places with their opponents at the same time.
Slaithwaite took full advantage of Marsh United 'A' having a bye week when clocking up a 6-1 away win at Paddock I&C to take over the Division 2 top spot by a single point but that lead may only be temporary.
Skel Windmill 'A' won the club derby with a 7-0 whitewash scoreline and Clayton West won 6-1 away at New Mill to send the losers back into the second relegation place one point behind Lindley Lib 'B' who picked up two points when losing at Holmfirth 'A'.
There were 5 matches in Division 3 and they all resulted in home wins including one for the leaders Golcar Lib. They had to rely on pinching the best aggregate points (94-89) to extend their winning home run to seven when being pushed all the way by Hemplow before registering a 4-3 win. With Almondbury Lib without a match and Marsh Lib going down 2-5 at Thongsbridge 'A' enabling the leaders to widen the gap at the top to 8 points with a 12-point cushion in the promotion places.
Brockholes 'B' won the battle of the bottom two overcoming Shepley 'B' 6-1 but staying in the wooden spoon spot for now. Greenhead Park had a first whitewash 7-0 victory of the season when seeing off Marsh United 'B' and swapping places as a result. Primrose Hill Lib beat Holmfirth 'B' with a second consecutive 5-2 home win and leapfrog their opponents to go 5th.
