Lots to settle as Division 1 teams reach halfway

Updated: Dec 8, 2021

Winter League

The half-way point of the season continues to see Lower Hopton setting a hot pace at the top and they have extended their lead to 18 points this week after an 8-0 win over Milnsbridge 'A', That result threatened to be a lot closer when the first singles match saw Milnsbridge stalwart Kevin Brown take a 14-11 lead over Roger Stopford but that only prompted a fight-back with the score being reversed and Roger eventually running out a 21-15 winner.

Things are getting a little congested behind the leader with now just one point separating the next 3 teams with Kirkheaton Con dropping points to bottom team Rastrick 'A' when beating them 6-2 to just hang on to second place. The New Millers missed the opportunity to go clear in second when being held by Thorpe Green 'A' in a 4-4 draw with the 2 points for the aggregate saving them from defeat with Thorpe Green taking the game count 2-1.

Lindley BC 'A' are very much in the mix for the runners-up slot aided by an 8-0 win over Lowerhourses 'A' although the scoreline no way reflects the closeness of the match. Lowerhouses lost 2 of the games to 20 and the aggregate by just 6 points but that is bowling for you and the outcome being that they remain in a relegation fight for now.

The second half of the season opens up now for Division 1 teams and it will continue to be interesting especially as regards the battle for second place with Lower Hopton apparently already uncatchable. Later this week we will be posting a Half-Term Report on progress to date both on and off the green at Milnsbridge.
