The top two contenders for the Section 1 Championship title go head-to-head this week with the outcome inevitably having a prime impact on the destination of the 2021 title. Lockwood are the form team having won their last 5 matches whilst the Elland side have lost 2 of their last 3 fixtures and with home advantage as well the Lockwood outfit will start as firm favourites. Whether that goes on to become a home win only time will tell but it will be a blow to whichever team loses out this week. Golcar Lib 'A' may well take exception to any inference that this is a title decider as they have their own ambitions and currently sit between the two aspiring Champions having played a game more than either of them. They need to pick up points from their trip to play Lindley Lib 'A' this Tuesday but that will be far from a formality as they lost to the same opponents 133-138 three weeks ago. If Waterloo could get their away form to come anywhere near their 100% home win record they would be well in the frame for honours but their solitary away win has been at bottom team Thongsbridge 'A' and that isn't form that will win titles at this level. This week they travel to play Meltham 'A' who are desperate for points themselves as they are perilously close to the dropzone along with Crosland Moor and both have home games this week where they should be looking to pick up some valuable points. That is particularly important this week as the bottom two teams both have away fixtures and whilst Thongsbridge's plight may seem beyond recovery that is not the case for Netherton Con 'A' who will be looking to avenge a 2-7 home defeat against the same Rastrick side of 2 weeks ago.
Take a look at all 5 Sections in the League and you will see that there is no more than 2 points between the top two teams in each Section except for Section 2. Here Kirkheaton Con 'A' continue to plough a lone furrow at the top as they pass the points century mark with a 23 point lead over Broad Oak 'A' who have to go to Almondbury BC 'A' this week. They in turn have a 2-point lead over third-placed Lindley BC 'A' who entertain Shepley on Tuesday. On Friday the 2nd and 3rd placed teams play their catch-up fixture which may have a direct bearing on the second promotion place. Fourth-placed Thorpe Green meet Hemplow on their own green having lost to them 2-7 just 2 weeks ago. Paddock I&C and Kirkheaton C&BC 'A' are losing ground on the other teams at the foot of the table and Paddock, especially with home advantage, will want to take points off a Brockholes 'A' side just out of the dropzone.
The top two teams in Section 3 both have to travel this week and the leaders, Lowerhouses, have the more difficult task when playing fourth-placed Golcar Lib 'B' whilst Holmfirth 'A' confront Brockholes 'A'. Third-placed Slaithwaite will be hovering to take advantage of any slipup by the top two as they entertain mid-table Springwood who have a olitary away win to date this season. It is very tight at the bottom of the table where 4 of the bottom 5 meet each other which may bring a bout a seismic change in the running order. Bottom of the table Outlane have home advantage over Marsh United 'B' with Meltham 'B' hosting Lindley Lib 'B' and plenty of reasons to do well this week for all four teams.
Denby Dale return to Section 4 action after their bye-week sees them still heading things at the top of the table. They have a home game with third-placed Lindley BC 'B' and will expect the current 9-point gap between them to be at least maintained. Second-placed Huddersfield Recreation Club has a difficult looking fixture at Elland C&BC 'B' who have won all their home matches to date. Kirkheaton Con 'B' sit at the foot of the table, 13 points away from safety and with the two teams immediately above them in a head-to-head match this week. Netherton Con 'B' are 8 points behind Almondbury BC 'B' but have home advantage and will aim to reduce that gap to introduce some doubt into the end of season run-in.
Huddersfield RUBC and New Mill 'B' are starting to inch away from the rest of the teams at the top of Section 5 and both will expect to continue that trend this week. Leaders, the Rugby Club, have a home game against Dalton and New Mill 'B' go to lowly Broad Oak 'B'. The 3rd and 4th placed teams meet up at Marsh Lib where Greenhead Park are the visitors with the teams locked together on the same number of points so that will change.
