Lockwood Con move into top gear and 2nd place

Veterans League

Two big 8-1 wins catch the eye in Division 1 of the 10-Man League as reigning Champions Lockwood Con 'A' move smoothly into second place in the table after seeing off Longwood this week. That 8-1 scoreline was matched by Waterloo who won away at former league leaders Marsh United 'A' and they swap places in the table as a result. Golcar Lib 'A' remain at the top of the table with a 7-2 home win over bottom of the table Lindley BC 'A'. Cowcliffe's good form continued when collecting a 5-4 win away at Clayton West who stay clear of the bottom three who all lost this week as well.

Milnsbridge 'A' reopened a gap at the top of Division 2 when beating Slaithwaite 7-2 whilst Almondbury BC 'A's challenge stuttered this Tuesday after a 4-5 reversal at Thongsbridge 'A'.

Netherton Con's five-match-winning run came to an end at Bradley & Colne by 3-6 this week and the two teams swap places in the table with the winners going up a place to third. A setback for Lowerhouses challenge for a promotion place after they lost 3-6 away at Hemplow 'A' which allowed Broad Oak 'A' and New Mill 'A' to take closer order after both clocked up 8-1 home wins. Shepley and Brockholes 'A' being on the wrong end of those scorelines and that was also a 5th straight away defeat for both teams. Thorpe Green widened the gap to a relegation place to 7 points after beating Lockwood Con 'B' who resides there currently.

It was a bad day for Division 3 leaders Holmfirth 'B' after losing heavily away 1-8 at Linthwaite Hall who overtake them at the top. Denby Dale took full advantage of that slip as well and move second after hitting Marsh United 'B' for 8-1. Paddock I&C had a good 7-2 home win over Lindley Lib 'B' to go third overtaking Golcar Lib 'B' who went down 2-7 at the Recreation Club. The equal closest aggregate scoreline of the day, 114-118, saw Almondbury Lib triumph at Springwood by 5-4 which leaves the losers in the relegation places.

The top-of-the-table clash in Division 4 saw the long-time leaders Ravensknowle Park going down heavily at Lindley BC 'B' by 1-8 who go top as a result. The Park actually dropped two places to 3rd after Elland C&BC 'B' played two matches this week, an 8-1 home win over New Mill 'B' on Tuesday and then their catch-up fixture at Outlane on Thursday where they won 4 points to add to their tally and go second in the table. Only one point separates those top three teams at present and wins for Meltham 'B' and the Rugby Club keeps them in contention.

Good wins for Brockholes 'B' and Almondbury BC 'B' lifted both teams a place in the table and dumped New Mill 'B' at the very bottom. Brockholes 'B' were involved in the closest aggregate score (108-106) match of the day with Milnsbridge 'B' and that enabled them to win 5-4 whilst Almondbury BC 'B' ended up with the same 5-4 winning scoreline at home to Thongsbridge 'B'.

Kirkheaton Con 'B' go top of the Division 5 table following their 7-2 away success at David Brown Sports and that puts them 3 points ahead of Marsh Lib who have won all their 7 matches to date but sit 3 points behind the leaders on the same number of games played. Their latest success being a 7-2 away win at Kirkheaton C&BC 'B'. The two other matches played this week saw 6-3 away wins for Broad Oak 'B' and Hemplow 'B' at Greenhead Park and Holmfirth 'B' respectively.
