Lockwood Con hang on to top spot

League News

'It's tough at the top' just ask Lockwood Con and Elland C&BC. Both teams have had spells at the top and that makes their scalp the one that everyone wants. Well Marsh United 'A' scalped the current leaders Lockwood Con 'A' by 8-1 this week who just manage to hang on to the top position in Section 1. Some of that being as a result of Elland C&BC 'A' being pushed all the way on their home green by Waterloo having to rely on the better aggregate total to inch it 5-4. The pack immediately behind the top pair are closing in on them now with the next 5 teams all winning their games this week. There are now just 8 points between the top six teams so everything is now in the mix. Lindley Lib 'A' had the only away win of the day in the top Section (6-3 v Crosland Moor) which pulled them out of the bottom four with Thongsbridge starting to look seriously adrift at the foot of the table.

A 2-7 home defeat for Broad Oak 'A' by Kirkheaton Con 'A' knocked them off the top of the Section 2 table and down into 3rd position with Thorpe Green beating Almondbury BC 'A' 8-1 to go 3 points clear at the top. That win for Kirkheaton Con 'A' being their 4th consecutive away win of the season but that still can't steer them any higher than 4th position. Lindley BC 'A' moved up into 2nd place despite being beaten at home by New Mill 'A' who claimed the aggregate and a 5-4 victory. Brockholes 'A' collected a 2nd successive away win by beating Lockwood Con 'B' by 7-2 and moving level in the table with their opponents and out of the relegation places. They are now occupied by Hemplow and Paddock I&C who both suffered 2-7 away defeats at the hands of Kirkheaton C&BC 'A' and Shepley respectively.

All six home teams win this week in Section 3 including the leaders Holmfirth 'A' whilst 2nd placed Golcar Lib 'B' slipped up at Outlane to drop a place to be replaced by Lowerhouses who thrashed bottom of the table Springwood 8-1. That wasn't the best win of the day in this Section as Slaithwaite provided the day's solitary whitewash scoreline when beating Meltham 'B'. It is very tight at the foot of the Section with only 3 points between the bottom 6 teams with 3 of them winning this week. Wins for Brockholes 'B', Lindley Lib 'B' and Outlane all contributing to the congestion.

Denby Dale and Huddersfield Recreation Club both remain unbeaten after 5 matches and now sit 1 and 2 at the top of the Section 4 table. Both the latest wins being of particular note enabling both teams to pass Lindley BC 'A' as Huddersfield Recreation Club overwhelmed them with a spectacular 8-1 scoreline. Next Tuesday the top two meet at Denby Dale so that is something to look forward to but it is unlikely to resolve any of the major questions. Only 2 points separate the top 3 teams but there is a 26 point gap between the top and bottom teams with none of the bottom 4 improving their precarious situations this week.

Five home winners in Section 5 with the Rugby Club having the biggest scoreline when beating Broad Oak 'B' 8-1 but Marsh Lib stay top after a 7-2 home win over Holmfirth 'B'
