The 2023 Bistro KO opens this Thursday with all sixty 10-man teams going into the hat. Four of those teams got byes into Round 1 and a further four teams also received byes after their opponents withdrew.
The Bistro format always attracts surprise results as some teams struggle to adapt to the five pairs format with the aggregate score to determine the winner. Teams are also handicapped based on their league positions at the end of the 2022 season. In the event of a tied match scoreline then the team with the most winners progress to the next round.
The new handicapping system is introduced for this year's competition so it will be interesting to see what impact that has on results which have always produced more than their fair share of shock outcomes.
Lockwood Con 'A' are the reigning Champions after beating Linthwaite Hall in last year's final played at Brockholes and they face a difficult opening defence when they take on fellow scratch side Kirkheaton Con 'A' at Thongsbridge. A match versus Kirkheaton C&BC 'A' awaits the winners of that tie as the Cricket Club have already been granted a place in the last 32 following the withdrawal of their Preliminary Round opponents, Broad Oak 'B'.
