Linthwaite Hall eliminated their second Division 1 opponent in this year's Bistro competition when sinking table high-fliers Waterloo 110-78. They started with a 20-point handicap advantage but didn't need it as they won 3 of the 5 games to run out clear winners to progress to a quarter-final match against the winners of the Skel Windmill v Primrose Hill Lib tie with the result still outstanding as we publish this posting.
Having previously knocked out Marsh United 'A', again without the handicap start, the new team this season from Linthwaite are having quite an impact on this competition as well as the Division 3 league table. Only Denby Dale sit higher in that table and they found their progress blocked at this stage of the Bistro when being beaten by Lockwood Con 89-102 in their continuing defence of this title.
The elimination of Waterloo was the only Round 3 shock result although Clayton West were grateful to scrape through 87-86 against Netherton Con 'A'. There were more straightforward wins for Longwood who made light work of overhauling the 36 handicap start that David Brown Sports had over them by winning all five games and the match 105-86; Lindley Lib 'A' glided past Sheply 96-66; Cowcliffe beat Marsh United 'B' by 105-79 and Slaithwaite had an easy passage over an 8-man Golcar Lib 'B' team.
Six Division 1 sides were in the last 16 contenders and 5 still remain and progress to the quarter-finals which will be played on Thursday 11 August on neutral greens to be determined. There will be one lower division side in the semi-finals and that will be the winner of the tie between Linthwaite Hall (Div.3) v Skel Windmill (Div.3) or Primrose Hill Lib (Div.4). There are two all-Division 1 clashes in Clayton West v Lockwood Con 'A' and Lindley Lib 'A' v Longwood.
