Leaders Lindley BC caught by Lowerhouses

Winter League

Review of the Division 2 fixtures played at Springwood on Wednesday 25 January

Following a run of three straight defeats Lindley BC 'B's lead at the top of Division 2 has disappeared and they have been caught by Lowerhouses 'A'.

The latest defeat for the leaders coming against Milnsbridge 'A' leaving the top two teams locked together on 62 points and only two 'Aggregate For' points difference (666-664) with two matches left to play. A rescue team is on its way as the top two Lindley bowlers are flying back to the rescue but will they be in time to resurrect their team's title hopes.

It is Lowerhouses 'A' who have taken advantage of the Lindley BC stutter with their latest 6-2 win over Denby Dale confirming their promotion, and possibly title, intentions. That was also a fifth straight 6-2 win for the Lowerhouses team which left the Denby side tottering on the edge of the drop zone with only a 22 better 'Aggregate For' total (590-568) saving them.

Four 6-2 scorelines this week included Springwood's win over Lockwood Con which means that they can still be promoted but also remain in the relegation fight as well. However the last day of the season encounter between Denby Dale and Jackson Bridge is likely to result in the loser dropping through the relegation trapdoor. Both teams have another fixture before then when maximum points will be critical in their battle to remain in Division 2 for next season.

A quick look at the remaining fixtures reveals that none of the top three teams plays each other over the final 2 weeks of the season.

There is still the matter of the other trophy to be awarded in Division 2 which goes to the Top Bowler which is currently Graham Stocks of Lockwood Cons. Graham just needs one win from the last 2 weeks of the season to cement his status as the 2022-23 Top Division 2 Bowler and he will retain the Lily Rose Trophy for a year with also a permanent memento to remind him of the achievement.

The trophy goes to the bowler with the 'Most Games Won' of Singles and Pairs results combined. In the event of a draw on games won then the 'Average' figure comes into play. The current standing of the top ten contenders is shown below.
