You can always rely on the unique format of the 5-Pairs aggregate-deciding Bistro KO competition to throw up a few giant-killing acts and surprise results and two are worthy of that heading after the latest round of matches last Thursday.
Denby Dale are riding high at the top of the Section 4 table and they remain unbeaten this season with an 8-match winning league record. They took that form into their Bistro tie against Section 2 outfit Broad Oak 'A' and the 16 handicap advantage proved more than sufficient as they ran out 105-89 winners. The other outstanding surprise result was played out at Moldgreen Con where Section 3 high-fliers Lowerhouses went down 115-120 to Section 5 mid-table side Greenhead Park. So well done to both of those teams and they are rewarded with another giant-killing opportunity when Greenhead Park face Section 2 leaders Kirkheaton Con 'A' and Denby Dale will meet Holmfirth 'A' who are top of Section 3.
The three Section 4 teams that created surprise results in Round 1 were on their best behavior in Round 2 as Milnsbridge B went out 75-103 to Section 1 scratch side Marsh Utd 'A'. The other two giant-killing teams faced each other and Lindley BC 'B' remain in contention after disposing of Primrose Hill Lib by 120-113.
There was only a single all-Section 1 fixture where Cowcliffe safely negotiated a win over Thongsbridge 'A' by 92-83 even though Thongsbridge won the game count 3-2. The other four Section 1 teams easily side-stepped potential banana skins to progress effortlessly to Round 3 which will be played on Thursday 22 July and is listed below with neutral greens still to be allocated. There are just five Section 1 teams in the final 16 and two of those will meet up when Clayton West play Golcar Lib 'A'.
