The Junior Gambert competition was introduced last year following the presentation of a new trophy to commemorate Huddersfield bowler Roger Crowther's involvement in junior bowling and support of the Scarborough competitions.
In September 2021, for the first time, the Junior Gambert competition was also held for the Roger Crowther Cup. This was the idea of Wendy Crowther who purchased the cup and named it after her late husband, Roger, who won the main event in 1979. They both regularly travelled to Scarborough for many years to support the competition.
