Veterans League
With the final result now available after last Friday's round of matches in the Veterans Inter-District season, the situation hasn't improved for the Huddersfield team. Bradford move into contention for the runners-up position after a 32-24 win over Castleford and join Halifax in being just 7 points behind the Huddersfield team. Our side has the most difficult run in as they have to play both of their main rivals for second place whereas Halifax and Bradford both have easier second matches to complete their seasons.
UPDATED LEAGUE TABLE
With 56 points available in every match played, it is still mathematically possible to overhaul the leaders but with the West Riding's remaining fixture being against a Skipton side that has one win in four and the Huddersfield team to play their two nearest challengers then it may be prudent to lower the sights to hanging on to second place as being the best outcome.
The HVBA website report on the match ignores the fact that their top bowler was stood on the sidelines at the home match as a reserve and there is no explanation for his exclusion despite his 100% win record in the competition. Inevitably speculation abounds among the bowling community in the absence of any official explanation.
The updated league table is below and this confirms West Riding's seemingly too big a lead over the chasing pack of three. With just one match remaining and that against Skipton (one win from four to date) then West Riding should be able to enjoy the last round of matches in the comfort of knowing that the trophy is already safely destined for their trophy cabinet for the next 12 months.
