Veterans League
Our Inter-District team's six-point lead at the top of the Yorkshire Inter-District table evaporated overnight after a 26-30 defeat by the Bradford team. However other results mean that our team remains well in contention to retain the title they won last year with one match left to play.
The home team won their match at Marsh United by 17-11 whilst the away side went down 9-19 at Pudsey Littlemoor. That result probably wasn't enough for the Bradford team to push themselves into the frame for the title but seriously dented the Huddersfield team's chances. The Bradford team face the new leaders, Leeds, in the final round of fixtures on 1 September and they could provide the key to improving our chances of holding on to the trophy for another year.
However our final opponents, Halifax, will also fancy their chances after inflicting a first defeat of the season on the West Riding representative team by 33-23 to move into third place, just two points behind the Huddersfield side.
It is mathematically possible for any one of the top five teams to be crowned Champions. It would take an enormous effort by the Bradford team to overturn Leeds by a 40-16 scoreline to inch past them but is doable. However the West Riding team are not out of the picture despite that loss last week as their final opponents are Skipton who have only won one match this season and a 17-point deficit may still be within their capabilities.
Realistically it is likely to be one of the top three that finishes top and Leeds are favourites especially if the Halifax and Huddersfield teams count themselves out with a close scoreline from their encounter. It all builds up to an intriguing final day of the season. All the latest results, updated table, remaining fixtures and match record are below.
