Inter-District crunch time this Friday

Veterans League

A six-points lead at the top of the Yorkshire Inter-District table with two matches to play is fragile and meaningless. That is the lead that our town team holds over the West Riding and Leeds teams. With two strong teams breathing down our necks and with 56 points at stake in each match there is much still to do by any team to clinch the 2023 Championship.

The top three avoid each other in the final two rounds of fixtures so it means looking where points can be won and lost. Two difficult fixtures for our team as we are pitched up against 5th-placed Bradford and then on the final day against 4th-placed Halifax. Both of these teams are still with a chance of lifting the title for themselves so they will be well-motivated.

If the gap remains the same going into the last round of matches then West Riding will be the favourites as they have the easiest-looking final-day match against Skipton. That means it is imperative to get a big win this week to provide some insurance against more difficult times ahead. A close looking contest with lots to look forward to and may the best team win.

The teams and venue are:

Away at Pudsey Littlemoor: Tim Poulter, Roger Stopford, Peter Hopkinson, Tony Butterfield, Edwin Haigh, Malcolm Gilbert (C), Garry Senior, Derrick Hewitt. Reserves Dave Pollard, John Burnett. Manager Alan Sharpe.

Home at Marsh United: Alan Bamforth, John Bloomer, Mick Cox, Robert Dickinson, Stephen Haigh, Gary Sigsworth, Ray Whitwam, Andy Wike. Reserves Barry Gibson, E ddieHaigh, Peter Kain. Non playing captain Frank Greenwood. Manager David Armitage.
