Veterans League
Putting aside all the uncertainty created by the application of the 50% rule, and the Management Committee's decisions at the end of the month, to review all this week's 6-Man League results at face value.
In the build-up to the Division 1 fixture programme we highlighted Honley Con's need for a good result against leaders Golcar C&BC and they certainly answered that calling in fine fashion. It doesn't get better than beating the top team by a whitewash 7-0 scoreline and that enabled them to leapfrog the previous leaders. However, lurking there all the time had been Shepley who matched the Honley 7-0 score to overwhelm Lindley Lib 'A' and take over at the top with a 5-point lead.
Netherton Con slipped up away at home bankers Brockholes 'A' going down 2-5 but stay in 4th place. Milnsbridge completed the hand of 5 home winners in the division when seeing off Longwood 5-2 whilst Linthwaite could become the first team to be officially relegated after next week's fixtures as they lost at 1-6 at Crosland Moor this week.
Division 2 leaders Marsh United 'A' won 6-1 away at 4-man Slaithwaite who for the 2nd successive week failed to field a full team. They hang on to 3rd place mainly due to the fact that Clayton West surprisingly lost 1-6 away at bottom team Skel Windmill 'B'. That win gives renewed hope for the Skel team in their fight against relegation.
Three teams remain under threat of the drop with New Mill and Meltham joining the Skel side in the bottom three places and only separated by 3 points. Meltham were without a match this week but New Mill were on the wrong end of a 7-0 home win from Lindley Lib 'B' who move well clear of the drop zone as a result.
In the other match in that division second-placed Skel Windmill 'A' faltered when going down 3-4 at Paddock I&C to leave the leaders 12-points clear. They won the game count 3-2 but lost the Aggregate count 78-96 mainly due to a 1-21 reversal in one of the singles games.
Golcar Lib retain their 12-points lead at the top of Division 3 after a 6-1 away win at Marsh United 'B' keeps them ahead of the chasing pack of three teams that are probably only competing for the second promotion place. Marsh Lib suffered a bit of a blip in their pursuit of that place when picking up 2 of the 5 games in their match at Greenhead Park. They relied on the aggregate to claim the match 4-3 but that leaves them 5 points behind both Hemplow and Almondbury Lib. Both these teams had big home wins this week with Hemplow whitewashing Shepley B and Almondbury Lib beating Thongsbridge 'A' 6-1.
