Review of the Veterans 10-Man League Divisions 1 & 2 matches played on Yorkshire Day

The Yorkshire Day Division 1 fixture programme resulted in all 6 home teams winning their matches this week. As that included the leaders Golcar Lib 'A' but excluded the next three teams in the table it was a great Yorkshire Day for the runaway leaders who extended their lead to 21 points by beating Elland C&BC 7-2. That trio of losing chasers was Rastrick (lost 1-8 at Lowerhouses), Cowcliffe (lost 3-6 at Meltham 'A') and Kirkheaton Con 'A' (lost 1-8 at Clayton West). That enabled two of the winners - Lowerhouses and Clayton West - to gatecrash the top four but someway behind the leader who will be enjoying seeing the chasing pack taking points off each other.
Marsh United 'A' continued their recovery with a 4th straight win, this time 6-3 over Waterloo whilst Lockwood Con 'A' beat bottom of the table Milnsbridge 'A' by 7-2. However all four of those teams remain in the relegation mix being in the five teams separated by 4 points and with 3 teams expected to be relegated they are all seriously in the drop zone.
Lindley Lib 'A' won the Division 2 Lindley derby match by 6-3 but still lost ground on the two teams above them. The leaders Netherton Con 'A' won their home match 7-2 against Linthwaite Hall whilst Shepley consolidated second place with a rampant 9-0 whitewash win at Thorpe Green. Both of those losing teams remain within the relegation drop zone if we really are looking at the potential for four teams to be relegated this season.
They are joined by Holmfirth 'A' and Hemplow 'A' who lost their home fixtures against Thongsbridge 'A' and Almondbury BC 'A' respectively. The Almondbury team have now gained more points away from home (38) than at home (34) and are the only team in the top two divisions to have done so. Bradley & Colne stay bottom as they were without a match this week and are now 27 points off a safe position to avoid the drop.
