Winter League
Preview of the Division 5 fixtures to be played at Netherton Con on Thursday 1 December

No bowler at Netherton Con will be sorry to see the back of a wet November as it has rained on three of the Thursdays during the past month to test the resolve of all the new Winter League bowlers.

All credit to the host greens and their drainage systems for ensuring that no matches have been postponed which hasn't been the case in previous years. Maybe we are learning more about managing wet-weather bowling. Despite all the rain over the past month the hosepipe ban in Yorkshire still applies!
The closest clash on the cards from this week's fixture programme is between Golcar C&BC against Brockholes 'B'. The two lowest-placed teams in the League meet up with just two points between them although both are in their best run of form of the season. Both teams have only been beaten once in their last three matches to set up an interesting encounter.
In fact both of the bottom two teams have better records over the past three matches than the Division 5 leaders, Thorpe Green 'C', who have lost their last two matches and are now within range of a number of predators sniffing out an opening into the promotion places. It probably won't get any easier for the leaders as they take on fourth-placed Springwood 'C' who could even reverse places with the leaders with a big win.
Almondbury BC 'B' could take over at the top if results go their way as they have to play lowly Huddersfield Rugby Club although they are yet again another team with only one defeat in their last three matches so it may not be as straightforward as it seems on paper. The one remaining fixture is between Netherton Con 'B' who have gone off the boil lately after a three-match winning start to the season but have now gone three without a win. They take on an inconsistent Milnsbridge 'C' (5th) who in their last two matches have become the first team to beat the leaders but then only draw with the bottom team.
