Golcar Lib teams cruising to title double

Veterans League Review of the Veterans 10-Man League Divisions 3, 4 & 5 results from Tuesday 29 August

The lines on the League Tables below show 2 things. The straight lines under the top and bottom two teams in each division indicate the promotion and relegation positions. The dotted lines indicate the extra teams that will be relegated in the event of the League rebalancing of the five divisions to 12 teams in each, dependent on the number of teams in the League.

Golcar Lib 'B' are cruising towards promotion from Division 3 after beating bottom-of-the-table Meltham 'B' 8-1 on Tuesday. They now need just 8 points from their last 3 fixtures to be mathematically sure of promotion and completing a club double with the 'A' team striding towards the Division 1 Championship.

Almondbury Lib could be joining the Golcar team after a 6-3 home win over Skel Windmill widened the gap between themselves in 2nd place and Denby Dale who are third and now 6 points adrift after losing 3-6 at Outlane.

Meltham 'B' will be confirming their own relegation shortly no doubt but who goes down with them is still very open. Only 8 points separate the next 7 teams and lots of points to be won and lost before that resolves itself. Five of those 7 teams lost their matches this week with Slaithwaite and Outlane the 2 winners who both move up above the frenetic actions of the falling fivesome.

Lindley Lib 'B' appear to be on course for promotion and probably the Division 4 title as well after a 6-3 away win at Ravensknowle Park at the same time as Marsh Lib and Marsh United 'B' were both losing. Marsh Lib going down 3-6 at the Rugby Club and Marsh United 'A' handing Kirkheaton Con 'B' a first win in 7 after another 3-6 scoreline. Springwood were without a match this week but nothing happened that will cause them any headaches about their continuing involvement in the promotion race.

It now looks like any 3 from the bottom 5 could be going down with Kirkheaton Con 'B' and the Rugby Club improving their chances although matches are running out fast for the current bottom three.

The Division 5 leaders, Milnsbridge 'B' lost 3-6 at David Brown Sports allowing Brockholes 'B', 5-4 winners at New Mill 'B', the opportunity to close the gap at the top to just 5 points. Broad Oak 'B' have also pushed themselves back into the reckoning after a 7-2 home win over Hemplow 'B' and with a match in hand over the two teams above them there is a route into the promotion places if they are good enough.

Dalton made it three straight wins after a 7-2 home success over Holmfirth 'B' and they are tucked behind Greenhead Park who also had a 7-2 home win (v Kirkheaton C&BC 'B') and Netherton Con 'B' (no match this week) who are all going through the motions with a mid-table finish for each most likely.
