Veterans League
Preview of the Division 3, 4 & 5 fixtures scheduled for Tuesday 25 April
We have a top-two clash in Division 3 this Tuesday as leaders Golcar Lib 'B' host Almondbury Lib. The Golcar Lib side finished third last season and are aiming for (at least) one better than that this time around. They completed a League double over this week's opponents last year although they have made a stronger start this year.
Denby Dale and Brockholes 'A' also hold unbeaten starts to the season and with both of them playing at home this week it would be a surprise to see that change so the loser of the top-two clash looks the most vulnerable.
Paddock I&C and Meltham 'B' are both still looking for their first wins of the season and one of them will achieve it when the teams meet this week.
Springwood have made an excellent start to the Division 4 season with two big wins taking them 3 points clear at the top but a big test coming up as they go to third-placed Huddersfield RUBC. Second-placed Almondbury BC 'B' are without a game this week giving Lindley Lib 'B' the chance to move up but they will need a win at Thongsbridge 'B' to do that.
The bottom four teams play each other with a Marsh derby match thrown in for good measure. Marsh United 'B' have home advantage over Marsh Lib with both teams only playing one match to date although Marsh Lib won their match so will be turning up in better fettle than their opponents. The other bottom four confrontation has Lindley BC 'B' at home to Ravensknowle Park with 2 points and one place between them at present. Kirkheaton Con 'B' and Primrose Hill Lib sit in mid-table where a win for either could lift them into contention at the top end of the table.
Division 5 leaders Milnsbridge 'B' sit this week out offering a great opportunity to Broad Oak 'B' and Brockholes 'B' to take over at the top. With home advantage the Broad Oak side look best placed to do that when they host 4th placed David Brown Sports although the Brockholes team have to go to lowly Kirkheaton C&BC 'B' which should hold no fear for them.
New Mill 'B' are still looking for their first win and also their first point of the season after starting with two 0-9 defeats and this week have to visit Dalton who are much fancied by Fantasy League punters although they still have to produce the goods after winning one and losing one to date.
Greenhead Park return to their home green where they registered an opening day 9-0 win and will fancy their chances against Netherton Con 'B' looking for their first win of the season. The lower half 'B' teams from Hemplow and Holmfirth complete the programme when they meet up with one point separating them at present and a big climb up the table almost guaranteed for the winner.
