Review of the 10-Man League Divisions 1 & 2 matches played on Tuesday 4 July
Only Divisions 1 and 2 played League matches this week in the Veterans 10-Man League with the other divisions involved in the Sub-Team KO which has been reported on here
Golcar Lib 'A' continued their seemingly stroll to a second Division 1 title with a 7-2 home win over Waterloo on Tuesday. That scoreline was matched by second-placed Rastrick when they overcame the visiting Elland C&BC who were losing for the first time in their last 7 matches. Cowcliffe slipped out of the title race a little after losing for a third consecutive time going down 3-6 at Lowerhouses. Kirkheaton Con 'A' reappear in the upper regions after a second big home win this time seeing off Longwood 7-2.
Clayton West continued their recovery from flirting with the relegation places by clocking up a 5th win in their last 6 matches when seeing off bottom-of-the-pile Milnsbridge 'A' by 8-1 who were losing for the 9th consecutive time amid desperate times for last year's Division 2 Champions.
A week without a fixture sees Marsh United 'A' worryingly appearing in the drop zone with a number of teams involved in steering clear of the second relegation place with Milnsbridge 'A' seemingly doomed for a quick return to Division 2. Longwood did their survival hopes no good whatsoever when going down at Kirkheaton Con 'A' by 2-7 but Meltham had a good 6-3 home win over Lockwood Con 'A' to keep them out of immediate danger.
The Division 2 week started with Lindley BC 'A' heading the table but level on points with Lindley Lib 'A' who overtook them after a 7-2 home win over Holmfirth 'A'. The Lindley BC 'A' fixture at Thorpe Green has been put back to next week so with two matches in the next week they will expect to recover that ground but Shepley and Netherton Con 'A' took advantage to pass them as well. Shepley took 8 points from their home match with Linthwaite Hall and Netherton Con 'A' made it three wins on the bounce when seeing off a visiting Almondbury BC 'A' team by 7-2.
With 7-2 home wins for New Mill 'A' and Broad Oak 'A' meaning that they remain well in the promotion picture but the two losing teams from Thongsbridge 'A' (lost 4 of last 5 matches) and Almondbury BC 'A' (lost 3 of last 4) appear to have lost momentum at present. They remain safe from an immediate threat from below with Bradley & Colne (7 losses on the bounce) and Holmfirth 'A' (10 consecutive defeats) showing no signs of recovery from dire positions.
