Veteran's 6-Man League Weekly Preview
The return to league action throws up the interesting Section A fixture this week where the teams in 2nd and 3rd positions square up to each other in the race to decide which of them is to provide real competition to leaders Shepley. Level on points but 7 points behind the leaders sit Netherton Con and Brockholes 'A' and the winners will have a head start in chasing down the leaders, for the losers it could lead to mid-table obscurity. That in no small part will be determined by the 4th v 5th confrontation also taking place this week when Milnsbridge entertain Thongsbridge 'B' who are separated by 2 points. Meanwhile interested spectators to all this activity will be leaders Shepley as they travel to play at lowly Paddock I&C. Four points separate the bottom four teams and the two outliers meet up this week when Lindley Lib will be hoping to make home advantage work when they host Longwood.
The Golcar derby match is the feature of the Section B programme this week with second placed Cricket & Bowling Club having home advantage over the mid-table Liberal Club with more than local bragging rights at stake. The home side need to put pressure on the leaders Honley Con who are 3 points ahead of them and away at Meltham this week so what better time to reinvigorate their challenge. Skel Windmill 'A' look secure in 3rd position despite having a bye this week as their 7 point lead and superior Aggregate For total over Clayton West insuring against any movement.
Slaithwaite have the League's only unbeaten record, a 5-point lead and game in hand over 2nd placed Almondbury Lib but this week's match away at Holmfirth 'B' could present them with their biggest challenge to date. Third in the Section C table are Holmfirth 'B' who have played 4 of their 6 matches to date away from home, have won both their home matches and could still emerge as the major threat to Slaithwaite's title intentions. The bottom four teams are separated by 2 points and two of these teams go head-to-head this Monday when Shepley 'B' have Marsh Lib as visitors. Both have won one match so far this season, as have bottom team Brockholes 'B', and that is about to change. The Shepley side in particular will be keen to end their losing run of six matches with only an opening day win on their record sheet to date.
