Veterans 10-Man League
The Veterans 10-Man League are in catch-up mode this week in the first of 4 scheduled Friday fixture dates for Sections 1 & 2 teams to overcome the delayed start to the season. Top of the bill is the confrontation of the top two Section 1 teams at Cowcliffe where the leaders Elland C&BC 'A' are the visitors. Elland have started with an opening winning run of three games which has given them a 5 point early lead at the top. Playing away to 2nd placed Cowcliffe is going to be a real test of their resolve especially noting the last time the two teams met was in this league fixture in 2019 when Elland edged it 5-4 but only because of a 125-119 better aggregate. Lockwood Con will be taking more than a passing interest in the outcome and then measure the threat to their own aspirations of extending their title-winning sequence which currently sits at six years stretching back to 2014.
Behind the leading pair in the table are 5 teams separated by 1 point with Lockwood Con a further 2 points away but with a game in hand over all the teams above them. That pack includes Meltham 'A' and Longwood who both have home fixtures on Friday where they will both expect to pick up winning points. Two of that pack go head-to-head when 6th-placed Marsh United 'A' entertain 5th-placed Clayton West with both on 15-points. Crosland Moor v Thongsbridge 'A' is a bottom-four encounter and both will be desperate to move away from the wrong end of the table.
The top four teams in Section 2 are separated by 3 points and all have games against teams in the bottom half of the league with the leaders Broad Oak 'A' travelling to Shepley with home fixtures for the 3 teams immediately below them - Thorpe Green, Bradley & Colne and Lindley BC 'A'. The 5th and 6th placed teams meet at Milnsbridge where the club's 'A' team host Kirkheaton Con 'A' and the bottom four sides are all away from home where one good result can catapult a team out of the danger zone.
