Veterans 10-Man League
It is all happening in Section 1 with turmoil at both ends of the table this week with surprise results throwing doubts into previously held beliefs, raising hopes, and damaging team aspirations.
Starting at the top where the Section 1 leaders, Lockwood Con 'A', lost for a second consecutive week this time 4-5 away at Netherton Con whose long-term involvement in the top section has been thrown into question this season. That defeat coupled with the Elland C&BC 'A' team's 6-3 home win over Cowcliffe sees the points difference drop to just 4 points and suddenly the title race is back on. Netherton Con may have had a very welcome and surprise win this week but it hasn't really changed their plight as they remain second from bottom with the only team below them, Thongsbridge 'A', also winning as they dragged Crosland Moor into the midst of the relegation battle by beating them 7-2. The Moor have only had one win in their last 6 matches a run matched by Meltham 'A' which is the next team involved although that win was this last week over Rastrick by 7-2. Waterloo may have had a brief flirtation with a top-two position but that ended when they lost their unbeaten home record this week 4-5 at the hands of Longwood who move to two points behind them. Longwood have the same 12-6 win record as the top two teams, have won their last four games and have a gentle run-in to the end of the season, meeting only one other top five teams over that period meaning that they cannot be discounted as dark horses for honours.
Section 2 leaders, Kirkheaton Con 'A', needed the better aggregate score of 122-118 to see off a determined Milnsbridge 'A' team with that aggregate providing a 5-4 win. The match also saw the end of a 16-match winning run for the Kirkheaton pairing of Gordon Walker and Jeff Jacklin as the Milnsbridge pair of Geoff Price and Stephen Tidswell prevailed 21-13. Broad Oak 'A's promotion challenge has faltered on the back of a run of 3 defeats in their last 5 games but a 6-3 home win over Shepley was sufficient to push them back into the second promotion spot. New Mill 'A' are the form team in this Section and they extended their winning run to 7 games with a 7-2 away success at bottom of the table Paddock I&C to storm into 3rd place passing Thorpe Green and Lindley BC 'A' in the process. Both lost their way this week with Thorpe Green going down 4-5 at Lockwood Con 'B' and Lindley BC 'A' on the wrong end of an 8-1 scoreline at Hemplow 'A'. Kirkheaton C&BC 'A' ended a run of 9 straight defeats with a welcome 6-3 home win over Bradley & Colne to give them renewed hope of closing the 11 point gap to Brockholes 'A' and safety as the Badgers went down 1-8 at home to Almondbury BC 'A' who were winning for only the 2nd time in their last 6 fixtures.
