League News
The last of the four Friday fixture programmes in the Veterans 10-Man League for Section 1 & 2 teams is this week with the Longwood v Thongsbridge C&BC 'A' match being brought forward 24-hours which resulted in a 7-2 home win for Longwood. That inched them nearer to the top two but still a point behind them and that is not likely to unnerve either Lockwood Con 'A' or Elland C&BC 'A' who are both fully focused on the Section 1 title race. Both of them have matches against mid-table opposition this Friday with Elland having an away match and 3 points behind the leaders being under the greater pressure. The key fixture in the relegation battle pits Meltham 'A' at home to Netherton Con 'A', two teams who seem destined to fight out avoiding the second relegation place with just one-point between them at present. Not that Crosland Moor are out of the mix either especially as they play the Meltham side next Tuesday away from home.
Kirkheaton Con 'A' will confirm their promotion to Section 1 this week if they can take 4 points from their visit to New Mill 'A'. That would mean that New Mill would get 5 points from the match and also mean that they couldn't overtake their opponents points total and as one of only two teams in range would ensure that Kirkheaton Cons get promotion out of Section 2. However their target is much higher and probably only a matter of time before the Section title comes their way as well. Lindley BC 'A' sit between these two protagonists and have a home match this week with lowly Kirkheaton C&BC 'A'. They will aim to gather as many points as possible to protect that second promotion place over the final 3 weeks of the season. Kirkheaton C&BC 'A' and Paddock I&C look to be in serious trouble and the bottom four teams all have away fixtures this Friday so it is unlikely that there will be much change with relegation decisions deferred for another few days.
