Winter League
We can now announce the first batch of new teams to sign up for the 2022-23 Huddersfield Winter League season after the invitation went out last week to all clubs. In addition, confirmation is also awaited from a number of other teams who expressed a wish to join the League over the past few months. The deadline for new team applications is 4 July 2022.
The four teams to add to the list of 27 teams that played in the League last season are Golcar C&BC, Springwood C, Milnsbridge C and Almondbury BC B. The fact that existing league clubs are adding more teams to the League shows the interest that is generated once clubs have participated in winter bowling. They enjoy the experience and bowlers who had previously been happy to play occasionally now want a weekly dose through the winter months. We expect to be able to accommodate all demands from new teams to join the League.
Five clubs have now offered to host matches in the 2022-23 season and new teams should be aware that we are not asking you to use your green at all. The greens we will be using for the new season are at Milnsbridge BC, Springwood, Thorpe Green and two new ones for the new season are Netherton Cons and Lindley Liberal Club.
The format is for 4-person teams playing two Singles and one Pairs match each week from October to mid-February. All bowlers have to be age 60 or above and we welcome male and female bowlers with no restrictions on the minimum or maximum number of bowlers of either gender in teams. We already have mixed teams, all-male teams and all-female teams and all operate on an equal footing.
