Focus on the Sub-Team KO

Veterans League

A preview of the Sub-Team KO Round 2 ties to be played on Tuesday 5 July

No fixtures for the Division 3, 4 and 5 teams as Round 2 of the Sub-Team Knock-Out competition takes over the Tuesday blank slot this week. This competition is for teams that finish the previous league season outside of the top 32 teams in the League as the top 32 all go through to compete in the Team KO.

The format is the same for both and identical to the normal league format in there being 4 singles and 3 pairs games to play. The only difference being that the aggregate total determines the winner in each match and only if those totals are the same does the number of games come into play as the decider. The full Round 2 draw is below.

The top two teams left in the competition are Skel Windmill and Linthwaite Hall who both sit in the top four positions in Division 3. The April league meeting of the two teams resulted in a 7-2 away win for Linthwaite Hall and they currently sit 10 points ahead of their JFT opponents.

There may be some league respite for two struggling teams as Marsh United 'B' and Holmfirth 'B' meet up as both sit at the foot of their respective divisions at present. Both had good Round 1 wins and both will be looking to build on that and then take that form into their league programme.

The biggest giant-killing act could be played out at Longwood with Division 5 team Dalton taking on Almondbury Lib from Division 3 with a 20-point start which may be too much for an inconsistent Liberal Club. It wouldn't be too much of a surprise to see Division 4 high-fliers, Lindley BC 'B' beat Division 3 strugglers Springwood especially with a 5-handicap difference. The meeting of the Division 3 Recreation Club and Thongsbridge 'B' should go the way of the first-named team if form is anything to go by as the Thonsgbridge side continue to struggle at the foot of Division 4.

There are still six Division 5 teams in the competition and at least one will progress through to the quarter-finals when David Brown Sports and Marsh Lib meet up at Brockholes. The final two Division 5 teams, Broad Oak 'B' and Kirkheaton C&BC 'B' will do well to progress any further as they take on Division 4 opponents in the Rugby Club and Ravensknowle Park respectively.

All the winners will progress through to the quarter-finals which will be played on Thursday 28 July.
