First defeat & first wins in Division 9

Winter League

Review of the Divisions 8&9 fixtures played on Tuesday 9 December

The Tuesday Division 2 fixtures at Cowcliffe were called off in the interest of bowler safety with a slippery wet surface open to the elements and a poor forecast for the playing time with Storm Bram in attendance.

Four matches and four 6-2 scorelines including one of those for the Division 8 leaders, Hemplow A. They saw off Linthwaite Hall who drop to the foot of the table as a result whilst Hemplow A retain their 12-point lead over Lockwood Con C. The homesters beat Meltham B 6-2 to maintain their grip on the second promotion place and a one-point lead over Broad Oak B. The Broad Oak team beat Mirfield B who remain off the pace of the top three in fourth place.

The one surprise result from the day was the 2-6 defeat of Golcar C&BC by a Cowcliffe C team that started the day bottom of the table but finished it in two places higher and out of the drop zone. That result dented the hopes of the Golcar team of moving into the top half of the table but they cannot relax as there are three teams all two points behind them. Those three look likely to fight for the one safe slot and condemn the other two to the relegation places.

A first Division 9 defeat of the season for Greenhead Park as they went down 2-6 to third-placed Marsh Lib B and their previous 8-points lead has been whittled down to 4 points as Kirkheaton C&BC C move closer after their 6-2 win over Mirfield C.

A 6-2 win for Kirkheaton Con C over Kirkheaton C&BC B team, who get overtaken by their opponents. A big first win of the season for Brockholes C who beat Almondbury BC C by 6-2 but stay bottom for now. Well done to the Badgers!
