False position for Lockwood Con?

Winter League

A preview of the Division 1 and 2 fixtures scheduled for Wednesday 16 November

The top three bowlers in the Division 2 Averages table all come from the same team - Lockwood Con. All have unbeaten records in a team which has been unchanged over their opening three fixtures so unsurprisingly hold down the number one spot at present.

This week they will be aiming to extend that winning sequence and their lead at the top of the table when they take on Lowerhouses 'A' who currently sit fourth from bottom in the league table. The previous three opponents are the current bottom three teams in the table so you could say that the newcomers from Lockwood Con are having the gentlest of introductions to Winter League bowling.

I am sure that there will be harder tests still to come but the Lockwood team can only take on what is put in front of them each week. They have done that in determined fashion but have been unable to shake off the Lindley BC 'B' side who have also won all three of their matches to date and sit two points behind them in the table.

This week the Lindley team meet foot-of-the-table Jackson Bridge who are still looking for their first points of the season. Sitting one place above them are Rastrick 'A' who also await their first win of the season and this week have to meet a Springwood 'A' team on their own green. Completing the Division 2 programme this week sees Milnsbridge 'A' attempting to overcome last week's first defeat and they meet a Denby Dale side also looking for their first win of the season.

The new Division 1 leaders from Lower Hopton take on the improving Clayton West team with a more intriguing clash on the cards as Thorpe Green 'A' (2nd) and Lindley Lib 'A' (4th) meet up.

There are only 2 points between the teams with Thorpe Green defending the only unbeaten Division 1 record. However the Lindley Lib team have settled really well at this level after their promotion from Division 2 and will look to continue their promising start to the season.

Meltham will look to build on their good win over Kirkheaton Con of last week when they confront Lindley BC 'A' who hold down the false position of bottom place having played a game less than most of their opponents. Along with the New Millers who sit one place above them they hope to play that outstanding match very soon and find their own true position in the table as things continue to be remarkably tight with only 10 points between all 8 teams despite the game totals difference.

Last season Kirkheaton Con finished in 2nd place behind Lower Hopton with New Millers a place back in third. This Wednesday they meet up and will recall that they managed to beat each other last season and wonder which team will come out on top this time around.

On the reverse of this you could argue that the fixture list has not been kind to Jackson Bridge, having played 3 of the top 4 already and they play 2nd placed Lindley BC this Wednesday.
