All the 2023 season fixtures in Divisions 4 and 5 were completed on Tuesday and all the Championship and promotion issues have been resolved in all three divisions. It is congratulations to all of those for those achievements. Although there are just three outstanding matches to be played next Tuesday in Division 3 they are key fixtures in finalising the relegation issues
Meltham 'B' are already relegated but who is going down with them is now down to three teams with two of them with a match still to play and it is against each other! It is all out of the hands of Kirkheaton C&BC 'A' who have completed their fixtures and now have to wait and see if the Huddersfield Recreation Club and Lockwood Con 'B' can pass them as they meet on the final day of the season.
That is going to be a big ask for the Recreation Club as they need 6 points and a minimum aggregate points total of 138 to save their Division 3 status. Lockwood Con 'B' who also need a final day unlikely result where they collect a minimum of 3 points and a minimum aggregate total of 89 points from the same match.
So that final result has to be the Recreation Club 6-3 Lockwood Con 'B' with the minimum aggregate scores of 138-89 to send the Cricket Club down in an automatic relegation place.
Even escaping automatic relegation may not be the final say in the matter as the rebalancing of the division's work identified by the League could result in two more teams being relegated. Just to complicate things even further Outlane and Slaithwaite are sat just above the bottom four relegation slots and need points from their last matches of the season to guarantee their survival at this level.
Congratulations to Golcar Lib 'B' who matched the club's 'A' team's achievements in winning their respective divisions and will be celebrating at their last match of the season at home to Slaithwaite next Tuesday. Promoted with them is Almondbury Lib who collected the required 4 points and them-some to ensure the runners-up position and promotion to Division 2 for next year.
Lindley Lib 'B' collected the Divison 4 Champions title in fine style with a 9-0 away win at Almondbury BC 'B' which left the Almondbury team in the third relegation place awaiting further outcomes on determining how many teams are going to be relegated.
Despite an 8-1 home win against Primrose Hill Lib for Marsh Lib that wasn't enough to push them into the promotion frame as Springwood won 7-2 away at Marsh United 'B' to clinch the second place. That defeat for Primrose Hill Lib confirmed their relegation along with Kirkheaton Con 'B' who could only field 8 bowlers for their final day 1-8 defeat at Thongsbridge 'B'.
A 7-2 scoreline for Brockholes 'B' was sufficient to clinch the second Division 5 promotion place after beating Netherton Con 'B'. Milnsbridge 'B' were already the Champions before their final fixture which they won by beating Broad Oak 'B' at home 7-2. That enabled the fast finishing David Brown Sports to pinch third place after an 8-1 away win at Holmfirth 'B' which condemned their hosts to the wooden spoon.
