A round of Friday afternoon fixtures for the top two sections in the Veterans 10-Man League opens up both competitions as the heavyweights flex their muscles and are found wanting in some parts.

A first defeat of the season hasn't knocked Elland C&BC 'A' off the top of the Section 1 table but a catch-up fixture for Lockwood Con on Monday could do. Elland have started the new season really well with 3 straight wins to set the pace at the top of the table with Champions Lockwood Con 'A' losing ground having played a game less. That is all about to change following the extra round of league fixtures on Friday for the top two sections when Elland were beaten by second-placed Cowcliffe 6-3 and Lockwood Con won 7-2 at home against Netherton Con. Cowcliffe did the damage in the Singles matches winning 3 of the 4 ties and promoting their own title-winning claims at the same time. Lockwood Con are 6 points behind the leaders and play their outstanding fixture at Lindley Lib 'A' on Monday afternoon. From then onwards there will be everything to play and it certainly doesn't look like it will just be a two-horse race either with Cowcliffe and Longwood very much in the picture at this stage.
Only one away winner this Friday in Section 1 and that saw Golcar Lib 'A' damage Meltham 'A's honour's aspirations in a 6-3 scoreline which was a third away fixture for Golcar so better times may be ahead. Lindley Lib 'A' were pleased to be back on their own green and celebrated with a first win of the season overcoming Rastrick 7-2 which saw them come off the bottom of the table to overtake Thongsbridge 'A' who lost 2-7 at Crosland Moor.

Three teams in Section 2 have 100% winning records to date but only one of them is in the top 3 of the early table. That being Broad Oak 'A' who won 7-2 at Shepley to open up a 3 point lead at the top with Bradley & Colne and Lindley BC 'A' both having home wins to sit comfortably in 2nd and 3rd slots. The two other 100% records belong to Thorpe Green and Kirkheaton Con 'A' and Thorpe Green needed the aggregate points to edge past 9-man Lockwood Con 'B' 5-4. Kirkheaton Con 'A' played their third away fixture coming away with the majority of the points with a 5-4 scoreline. Hemplow 'A' are still looking for their first victory of the year and went down 2-7 at Lindley BC 'A' with the two points and a better aggregate total pushing them above Paddock I&C who drop to the foot after losing 1-8 at New Mill 'A'. Brockholes 'A;' collected their first win of the season with a good 6-3 win at Almondbury BC 'A', a win that lifted them two places and out of the drop zone.
