Elland looking to build on first big win

Updated: May 10, 2021

League News

Elland C&BC A will be looking to continue their impressive opening to the new Section 1 campaign when they were the only away winners on the first day. They now host Lindley Lib A who have had a delayed start to the season due to work at their club preventing access to the green. That work also delayed the Champions, Lockwood Con A, beginning the defence of their title and they begin the catchup when entertaining old rivals Longwood this week.

Second-placed Meltham A have to visit Rastrick who will be looking to improve on last week's aggregate total of 81 which was the second-lowest total in any of the sections. Cowcliffe, Crosland Moor and Marsh United A all had home wins last week and this time around are playing three opening day losing teams. Two heavy losers from last week meet up when Clayton West travel to play newly promoted Thongsbridge A with both teams keen to open their 2021 accounts.

Confidence will no doubt be high among the Lindley BC A team following their opening day 9-0 win and they will need to take that level of performance with them to Kirkheaton Con A who opened with a good away win themselves in Section 2. Broad Oak A were the other away winners on Day 1 and this time they entertain another top-half team in New Mill A. Bradley & Colne started life at this level with an 8-1 home win after their promotion and will be tested at Paddock I&C who will be looking for their first win.

In Section 3 Skel Windmill and Holmfirth A both logged 8-1 wins last week and Skel with home advantage this week over first-day winners Slaithwaite will be aiming to stay in the top place. The two teams currently occupying the bottom two places, Outlane and Lindley Lib B, meet up in a reversed fixture to be played at Outlane. That leaves Marsh United B, Springwood, Almondbury Lib and Lowerhouses to bounce back from opening day away defeats to kick-start their seasons.

There were three away winners last week in Section 4 more than any other section, Lindley BC B, Denby Dale and Huddersfield Recreation, and all will be hoping to build on that this time around with big home wins. Netherton Con B sit at the top of the pile going into Week 2 and they will look to extend that in their trip to play Milnsbridge B.

Marsh Lib began their Section 5 season with two away fixtures but that won't bother them too much if they continue in the same form which saw them as the only away winners when they started with an opening day 7-2 win. Three teams share the top spot on 8 points and the Rugby Club, Kirkheaton C&BC B and Hemplow B will all be hoping to continue that kind of form as they are all on the road this week. Enjoy your bowling gentlemen.
