Elland C&BC 'A' went back to the top of the Section 1 table after their Friday catch-up fixture win over Marsh United 'A'. The 8-1 scoreline giving them a 3-point cushion at the top but how long can they hold on to that lead? The Tuesday fixture programme pitches their nearest rivals, Lockwood Con 'A', at home to bottom team Thongsbridge 'A' whilst they have to travel to face the tricky green and stubborn opponents at Crosland Moor. It could result in another turnaround at the top of the table which is becoming almost a weekly occurrence. Longwood have sneaked into contention with wins over Elland and Cowcliffe in their last two games pushing them into third place and they have 6th placed Golcar Lib 'A' as visitors this week. Similar for Clayton West with a run of 4 straight wins promoting them to 4th place whereas Cowcliffe have lost their last 3 matches to drop from 2nd to 5th which demonstrates how tight things remain at the top of the table.
It is also top v bottom in Section 2 as well with leaders Kirkheaton Con 'A', on a 6-match winning run, away to Paddock I&C whilst the teams in 2nd and 3rd places facing each other when Lindley BC 'A' host Broad Oak 'A'. Thorpe Green complete the quartet of teams to have opened up a 10-point gap over the chasing pack and they will expect to maintain that difference at home to Shepley this Tuesday. It remains tight at the bottom of the table with 6 points between the last four teams and whilst bottom team Paddock are at home the 5 teams immediately above them are all away from home this week so one good result could prove game-changing in the battle to stay out of the relegation places.
It is even tighter at the bottom of Section 3 where 5 points separate the bottom 5 teams with two of those teams meeting this week with the B teams from Brockholes and Lindley Lib going head-to-head. Bottom team Outlane have to welcome 2nd placed Lowerhouses to their green and the high-fliers will have one eye on the top v 3rd confrontation going on at Slaithwaite where the leaders, Holmfirth 'A' are the visitors. The top 4 teams have opened up a 10-point lead over the rest of the teams and 4th placed Golcar Lib 'B' will expect to retain that difference when hosting 6th placed Skel Windmill this week.
Section 4 leaders Denby Dale may welcome their bye this week after suffering their first defeat of the season last Tuesday when going down to bottom team Almondbury BC 'B' who will be looking to build on that shock result when visiting Kirkheaton Con 'B' who dropped back into the bottom spot after last week's results. Lindley BC 'B' have the chance to narrow the gap between themselves and the leaders when visiting Ravensknowle Park 'A' this week althogh only the leaders have managed to leave there with the majority of the points to date. One point separates the next 3 teams and they all look to have winnable matches this week which could result in the tussle at the top becoming more congested after all the results are added up.
It is top versus third in Section 5 this week with the leaders, Marsh Lib having home advantage over New Mill 'B'. Huddersfield Rugby Union sit a point behind the leaders after being dislodged last week and will be aiming to recover that status after their home game against Greenhead Park on Tuesday. That will be no easy ride as the Park are on a run of three straight wins and will be looking to move into promotion contention with a fourth win. The bottom two teams meet at Kirkheaton Cricket where the B team entertains David Brown Sports who desperately need a win to narrow the 7 point gap to their opponents.
