Review of the Veterans 6-Man League matches played on Monday 17 July

Skel Windmill 'A' have played and won two league matches in the last week to move within 4 points of the Division 1 leaders, Marsh United 'A'. The top five teams all played away fixtures on Tuesday with 3 of them returning victoriously. The odd ones out being Shepley 'A' and Brockholes 'A' who lost at Milnsbridge 'A' (2-5) and Netherton Con (2-5) respectively. That was a first win in six and completed a double over the Badgers.
Marsh United 'A' won 5-2 at Lockwood Con to cement their lead and Golcar C&BC also won 6-1 at Elland C&BC to move up a place to fourth. All that didn't result in any changes in the order of the bottom six teams with Crosland Moor and Longwood tied on the same points total and seemingly destined to fight out avoiding the second relegation place for the rest of the season.
Division 2 leaders, Slaithwaite, recorded the day's only whitewash scoreline of 7-0 and that was against the Lindley Lib 'B' side who slip two places to fifth as a result. Paddock I&C move up to third place despite losing 3-4 at Holmfirth 'A' but that enabled Lindley Lib 'A' to stretch their claim on the second promotion place after a 6-1 home win over Linthwaite Hall.
Denby Dale fall back into the drop zone after losing 1-6 at home to Golcar Lib and are now level on points with Skel Windmill 'B' who 5-2 at home to Milnsbridge 'B' but have a better Aggregate For total. A good day for Almondbury Lib with a 6-1 home win over Clayton West which, along with other results, saw them extend the gap over the relegation rumble from 4 points to 9, a good outcome for them.
A surprise 1-6 Division 3 home defeat for Marsh United 'B' by lowly Greenhead Park saw them drop out of immediate contention for a promotion place and fall two places to fourth. New Mill jumped the other way to take 2nd place with a 5-2 away win at Hemplow and took with them Thongsbridge 'B' who lost at home 2-5 to Marsh Lib. That stretched the leader's advantage to 4 points although none of the leading bunch are showing dominant results at present so expect some more changes before this title race gets settled. All five home teams lost their matches in Division 3 this week including the bottom two - Shepley 'B' and Brockholes 'B' - who lost to Meltham and Holmfirth 'B' respectively.
