Division 4 top 2 looking to open gap
Winter League
Preview of the Monday fixtures in Divisions 4 & 10
DIVISION 4 (Thorpe Green) MONDAY PREVIEW

LINDLEY LIB C and Milnsbridge B were the star teams in Division 4 last week with maximum point wins getting their season underway. The Lindley Lib team face Netherton Con A this week and will look to build on last week’s fine start against a side who struggled against Mirfield CBC A in a 6-2 defeat.
Meanwhile, Milnsbridge B will fancy their chances of another high-scoring win when they take on the Springwood A team on the green at Thorpe Green. The Springwood side sit at the bottom of the league ladder, pointless after their defeat to Lindley Lib. The other pointless side a week ago was Linthwaite Hall A who this week face a Lindley BC B side that started their season with a draw in their fixture against Rastrick A. Those two sides each gained four points from the opening round.
Rastrick A will face Mirfield CBC A this week in a tough-looking fixture. The Mirfield side sit third with Rastrick just one place behind but the key statistic to take from last week’s records is that the Mirfield bowlers scored a collective 61 points finishing just two shy of the maximum 63 points available that would have seen them sitting “joint top” with the Lindley Lib and Milnsbridge teams.
DIVISION 10 (Skel Central) MONDAY PREVIEW

TEAMS in Division 10 go into their third week of fixtures on Monday with the two teams from host clubs Skelmanthorpe Central heading the league table. Both the A and B teams have made consistent starts and have picked up six points in all four games. Can they gain six points or better this week?
The Central A team will fancy their chances against Almondbury BC C who have picked up just two points so far. And the Central bowlers should have all the knowledge as those two points were picked up against their B team! If the A team are confident this week then the B team will likely have similar amount of optimism as they play against a Marsh Lib C side that have picked up two points in each of their two games so far.
The confidence in the Skelmanthorpe camp will come from their win against an Holmfirth B side who had picked up eight points on the opening week of the season but could only manage two points against Central’s A side last week. Working out the likely winners of the Holmfirth’s side fixture against Brockholes D this week is tricky, the Brockholes side went from picking up two points in the first week of the season to eight last week!
The final fixture in this division on Monday is an inter-club clash between Brockhole’s C and E teams. Both have tasted success and failure this season, take your pick on which team will prevail this week.
Can I take this opportunity to remind all teams about two matters.
1. Measuring: When bowlers call for the measurers to decide the outcome of an end they are calling to everyone stood on the sidelines. It is not the sole responsibility of the host club to undertake measuring duties. We ask them to provide a long tape and that is where their responsibility ends. All teams should have at least one team member carrying a tape to be used in any match on the green. If a game calls for a measure and you are nearest to it then get there and measure for them. So when bowlers call for a measure they should be overwhelmed with responses to banish the delay in completing that end. This becomes more important as the cold wet weather becomes more frequent. We don't want us old folks standing around waiting for a measure in the cold.
2. Bowlsnet: Bowlsnet is a wonderful invention but it only comes into its own if captains fill in the results and verify their opponents' completed scores. It is the responsibility of the 'home' team (the first one in the fixture list) to complete the uploading of the match result on the system. Teams are very good about getting results on the system very quickly and it is a rare occurrence if the result is not added on matchday. Having said that it doesn't matter which team completes the inputting of the result. What does matter is that the other team verifies the result. If a team finds a wrong result or a wrong scoreline in any of the games then they should contact the League Secretary to get it corrected. Team captains cannot correct scores on the system. This becomes more important as the season progresses because team members will be looking at their playing records and a wrong scoreline can damage any bowler's chances of winning a Division's end-of-season Top Bowler award.
