DIVISION 6 REVIEW

Two weeks of the new season have been completed and already no team has a 100% win record but four teams have unbeaten records, which is different. One of those teams, Hanging Heaton B, have not won or lost either of their first two fixtures having drawn them both 4-4. The latest being against Kirkheaton Con B where a 58-57 aggregate score saw the Yetton boys salvage a share of the points after losing the game count 2-4.
That puts them two points behind the early leaders, Almondbury BC A who clocked up a first win of the season and 8-0 at that, against Huddersfield RUFC. Dalton were the Week 1 table-toppers but that all changed after they went down 2-6 to Milnsbridge C who leapfrogged them to take third-place. Springwood C lost for the second time going down 2-6 to Outlane A and stay at the foot of the table.
DIVISION 7 REVIEW

The opening day of the season for Division 7 teams resulted in all four matches finishing with an 8-0 scoreline. So we have the four winning teams occupying the top four places only separated by their Aggregate Difference totals. Name-check for the four winners being Springwood B, Thongsbridge, Marsh Lib A and Netherton Con B. It looks like the latter team may have found their level after only winning two matches all last season, a first win was doubly welcome. In fact they have only won 8 matches in three seasons and only being saved from relegation each time by applying the host club's Avoid Relegation rule. Finally accepting relegation last season and let's see if that produces an upturn in fortunes.

Can I take this opportunity to remind all teams about two matters.
1. Measuring: When bowlers call for the measurers to decide the outcome of an end they are calling to everyone stood on the sidelines. It is not the sole responsibility of the host club to undertake measuring duties. We ask them to provide a long tape and that is where their responsibility ends. All teams should have at least one team member carrying a tape to be used in any match on the green. If a game calls for a measure and you are nearest to it then get there and measure for them. So when bowlers call for a measure they should be overwhelmed with responses to banish the delay in completing that end. This becomes more important as the cold wet weather becomes more frequent. We don't want us old folks standing around waiting for a measure in the cold.
2. Bowlsnet: Bowlsnet is a wonderful invention but it only comes into its own if captains fill in the results and verify their opponents' completed scores. It is the responsibility of the 'home' team (the first one in the fixture list) to complete the uploading of the match result on the system. Teams are very good about getting results on the system very quickly and it is a rare occurrence if the result is not added on matchday. Having said that it doesn't matter which team completes the inputting of the result. What does matter is that the other team verifies the result. If a team finds a wrong result or a wrong scoreline in any of the games then they should contact the League Secretary to get it corrected. Team captains cannot correct scores on the system. This becomes more important as the season progresses because team members will be looking at their playing records and a wrong scoreline can damage any bowler's chances of winning a Division's end-of-season Top Bowler award.
