Preview of the Divisions 1 & 2 fixtures for Tuesday 23 May 2023
The top two teams in Division 2 go up against each other this Tuesday with the leaders, Lindley Lib 'A', having home advantage over Shepley. Just one point separates the two teams at present but that is all about to change but which way? The Lindley Lib team have lost two of their last three matches but are unbeaten at home whereas Shepley are on a run of five straight wins so the scene is set for a great confrontation.
Third-placed Netherton Con 'A' are poised and ready to pounce and move into the promotion places regardless of which team comes out on top from the top two clash. They entertain New Mill 'A' who have lost all three of their away matches to date. At the bottom of the table Hemplow 'A' are still looking for their first win and hope that will come at home to third-from-bottom Bradley & Colne this Tuesday.
Almondbury BC 'A' are the division's form team at present having won their last four matches (3 of them away from home) by the same 6-3 scoreline with a home match at home to Thongsbridge 'A' this week who sit one place and one point behind them at present. Thorpe Green have only won one of their last four fixtures and they have to play a Broad Oak 'A' team that has won their previous three matches and still have aspirations for joining in the promotion fight. Lindley BC 'A' believe that they are already part of that fight and with a game in hand over the three teams above them in the table have some justification for that stance. A big win at lowly Holmfirth 'A' would reinforce that belief.
The Division 1 leaders, Golcar Lib 'A' will be looking to bounce back from a first away defeat of the season sustained at Rastrick last week when they host an inconsistent Clayton West team. Marsh United appear to offer the greatest threat to the reigning Champions chances of retaining their title and with a home against relegation-threatened Longwood this week will look to close the gap to the top.
Lockwood Con 'A' ended a run of three straight defeats when beating Longwood last week and will look to build on that when hosting a Cowcliffe team that lost heavily at home to Marsh United last week. Lowerhouses continue to improve after a sluggish start to their first Division 1 season and this week have another home match this time against Kirkheaton Con 'A' who are still looking for their first away win of the season.
Meltham's home record continues to impress and they will have that unbeaten record thoroughly examined this week when Rastrick are the visitors. Waterloo will expect to pick up the majority of the points with a home match against Milnsbridge who continue to struggle at this level with their previous two away matches resulting in 1-8 and 0-9 losses.
