Winter League
Week 2 of the Winter League's Division 1 fixture programme takes place on Wednesday from 12noon at Milnsbridge BC and if the weather is going to be as kind as it was last week then no one will be complaining including the Milnsbridge Club Treasurer. Hot weather brings thirsty drinkers, bowlers and spectators.
But it is not just the weather or the beer that is attracting the bowling critic to this green each Wednesday but the quality of the matches and the friendly disposition of bowlers and supporters. That manifested itself last season and has thrived during the summer months to bloom once again this Autumn. We encourage visitors to join us at the green and enjoy the buzz of bowlers meeting and a good match to watch, appreciate and comment upon.
All four matches go ahead at the same time with each fixture of 2 Singles and 1 Pairs games. Four jacks on the green all the time with one jack per match. Now on to the week's fixture list.
New Millers have a bye this week
After a bye last week the Lower Hopton team makes its much-anticipated entrance onto the winter scene with a meeting with one of last week's four winning teams, Lowerhouses. The Lowerhouses team have the advantage of having played on the same Milnsbridge green last winter and it obviously suited their style as they sat at the top of the table when a halt to proceedings was called with the third lockdown after Christmas. They have continued that form with an opening day 6-2 win over Rastrick 'A' and will be aiming to continue that run against the new boys from Lower Hopton.
Clayton West was leading the Springwood table last season and was unbeaten when the season was halted so last week's defeat to Lindley BC 'A' was a bit of a setback that they will be keen to address. However they will have it all on when they meet Thorpe Green 'A' who did win their opening fixture with a 6-2 scoreline against the hosts from Milnsbridge 'A'.
Rastrick 'A' and Milnsbridge 'A' both lost their opening fixtures last week and both will be looking towards opening their account when they clash this Wednesday. Lindley BC 'A' has an 8-1 win record on this green in Winter League matches whilst Kirkheaton Con has a 0-1 record but that will count for nothing when they go head-to-head in the final fixture of four this week.
