Division 1 Champions bottom of the table

Winter League

A preview of the Divisions 1 & 2 fixture programmes scheduled for this Wednesday

The opening day of the Division 1 season started with the Champions being beaten and two of the four fixtures producing drawn results which all point to a close season coming up. Lower Hopton will be keen to address any flaws that their opponents may have detected in their defence of the title by getting back to winning ways very quickly.

The current table looks very strange with the Champions at the foot of the pile and that could make them a very dangerous opponent for newly promoted Meltham who were denied a win last week by a one-point deficit in the averages (56-57).

The New Millers will be keen to continue their winning start to the season when facing Lindley BC 'A' who they completed a double over last year.

Kirkheaton Con sits at the top of the table at the present courtesy of a one-point better 'Aggregate For' total and will be aiming to build on that when taking on Thorpe Green 'A' this week.

Lindley Lib 'A' marked their move up to the top division with a commendable opening day draw with their Lindley neighbours and will be tested again this week against Clayton West. It would be a surprise if the gap between top and bottom teams remained at 4 points after this week's fixture programme.

Milnsbridge 'A' and the new team from Lockwood Con already look like strong Division 2 promotion candidates after both clocked up day one 8-0 wins. This Wednesday both meet teams that suffered opening day defeats with Jackson Bridge having the unenviable task of stopping Milnsbridge mounting an immediate return to Division 1 challenge. Lockwood Con will aim to build on their good first-day experience of winter bowling when confronting Denby Dale this Wednesday.

The teams in 3rd and 4th places are level on points and go head-to-head as Lindley BC 'B' take on Springwood 'A' and both will be aiming to secure third position and keep their own promotion hopes on track. Rastrick 'A' will be keen to halt the losing run that goes back to the first day of last season but could find Lowerhouses 'A' in a more determined mood than they were last week when going down 2-6 to the newly promoted Lindley BC 'B' side.

All Winter League matches have an 11.30am start time this season with matches being played on the same days of the week throughout the season.

Mondays: Division 3 at Thorpe Green and Division 4 at Lindley Lib Wednesdays: Division 1 at Milnsbridge and Division 2 at Springwood

Thursdays: Division 5 at Netherton Con
