Review of the Division 1 and 2 fixtures played on Wednesday 16 November
What a week in the top two divisions as both leaders took a nose dive down a place or two and other strong contenders joined them in a week of shocks.
The Division 1 leaders at the start of the day were Lower Hopton but they lost for the second time this season going down 2-6 to an improving Clayton West team. Last season Lower Hopton went the full term only losing once but this year they have been beaten twice in the first four weeks to really open up the title chase and there are now just 8 points between the top seven teams.
Thorpe Green 'A' take over at the top after overcoming Lindley Lib 'A' 6-2 and preserving their unbeaten record at the same time. Meltham go second after beating Lindley BC 'A' by 8-0. There was another 8-0 scoreline as well as the two teams to finish last season in 2nd and 3rd places met as New Millers saw off Kirkheaton Con with the whitewash score.
The Division 2 leaders were Lockwood Con who had won their opening three fixtures but they were well beaten 6-2 by Lowerhouses 'A' to drop a place behind Lindley BC 'B' who beat Jackson Bridge 6-2 and are now the only team in any division that has won all their matches to date. If this run continues they could find themselves swapping places with the club's 'A' team currently anchored to the foot of the Division 1 table.
Milnsbridge 'A' started the season strongly with two 8-0 wins but tasted a second defeat, this time 0-8 to Denby Dale, who were winning for the first time this season. A continuance of that form will see Denby Dale soon climbing up the table. That was a setback to Milnsbridge's promotion hopes but they are only 8 points behind the leader although down in 5th place. Rastrick 'A' continue to seek their first win of the season with the latest result being a 2-6 defeat to Springwood 'A' who have reached 3rd place now.
