Veterans League
Preview of the Division 1 & 2 fixtures scheduled for Tuesday 9 May
The top two finishers in the 2022 Division 1 season meet again this Tuesday when Golcar Lib 'A' host runners-up Kirkheaton Con 'A' with the home team once again at the top of the table. Last year this fixture produced a 5-4 home win on the last day of the season to seal the title for the Golcar team and they will be looking for something similar this time around which may be the best that the visitors could hope for.
With second-placed Cowcliffe having the day off it presents an opportunity for Rastrick to claim the second spot and they travel to play Clayton West where the home team are still looking for their first home win of the season. Meltham have had the perfect home start to their season with 9-0 and 8-1 home victories stashed away and they will look to continue that run when they entertain Longwood this Tuesday.
Marsh United 'A' will be aiming to return to winning ways after suffering their first defeat of the season last week and will expect to do that with a home fixture against bottom-of-the-table Milnsbrdige 'A'. Elland C&BC and Lowerhouses both have 16 points after Won-1 Lost 4 starts to the season and with home advantage Lowerhouses will be expecting to add to their tally and move ahead of their opponents. Lockwood Con 'A' will be looking to avoid a third consecutive defeat when they host Waterloo with last year's outcome of an 8-1 home win the target.
The Division 2 top two teams both have home matches this week with the leaders, Netherton Con 'A' looking to extend their unbeaten start and two point lead over Lindley Lib 'A' when they meet Braod Oak 'A'. The visitors have lost all three of their away matches to date so will do well to get anything from their trip this week.
Third-placed Shepley will be looking to build on last week's 9-0 home win and aiming to inflict a first home defeat on New Mill 'A'. Fantasy League Division 2 favourites are Almondbury BC 'A' and after two straight home defeats may be turning the corner following two wins and a ride to lowly Holmfirth 'A' lined up for this week.
Hemplow 'A' remain the only team in the division still searching for that first win of the season and will fancy their chances of doing that as Thongsbridge 'A' come to visit. Bradley & Colne have had an indifferent start to the season and haven't won since the opening day of the campaign. They will do well to break that sequence with a trip to second in the table Lindley Lib 'A' who will be looking to bounce back from a first defeat of the season when going down to neighbours Lindley BC 'A' last week.
Thorpe Green and Linthwaite Hall are both on 17 points and on the verge of the relegation battle so a win for either side will bring some quick respite and send the losers into a position that they don't want to be in.
