Cowcliffe go top after big home win

Veterans League

Review of the Division 1 and 2 results of matches played on Tuesday 18 April

New leaders at the top of Division 1 as Lockwood Con 'A' sit the week out which enables a change at the top as Cowcliffe take over after a dominant 8-1 home win over Kirkheaton Con 'A'. They are top only on a 10-chalk better 'Aggregate For' total than Champions Golcar Lib 'A' who recovered from a surprise home defeat last week to beat Milnsbridge 'A' 7-2 on their own lawn.

Longwood lost for the first time this season when visitors Rastrick ran out 7-2 winners and moved above their opponents in the table to assume third position. Only Marsh United 'A' can match Lockwood Con 'A's unbeaten record after inflicting a third consecutive defeat on promoted Lowerhouses 7-2. Meltham continued their pattern of winning big at home and going down heavily away from home when losing 1-8 at Waterloo for a first win of the season.

Elland C&BC 'A' only managed two winners in their home match against Clayton West but still took the aggregate (130-121) to scramble four points but suffered a rare home defeat going down 4-5 to their visitors who they completed a League double over last season.

In Division 2 the two Lindley teams continue to set the pace with Lindley Lib 'A' condemning Almondbury BC 'A' to another week in the relegation places after winning 7-2 on their own grass. The winners line-up included the sprightly 94-year-old Arthur Tracey who was in a pairs win to contribute to the convincing 132-113 aggregate advantage.

Lindley BC 'A' beat Broad Oak 'A' 6-3 to open up a 3-point lead over third-placed Netherton Con 'A' who maintained their winning start to the season with a 6-3 away win at Thongsbridge 'A'. The top three teams all have unbeaten starts to the season and three teams are still looking for their first wins of the year including Hemplow 'A' who went down 3-6 at home to Thorpe Green 'A' who go fourth and seem determined not to become involved in a relagation battle this season after last year's great escape.

Shepley dropped a place to 5th despite recording a very commendable 5-4 away win at Bradley & Colne where their 139-128 aggregate win was key in picking up the majority of the points. Linthwaite Hall appear to have settled the better of the two promoted teams, Holmfirth 'A' being the other team, and they clocked up a second home win when beating New Mill 'A' 6-3 to sit in a mid-table quartet of teams all on the same 13-points total at present.

Divisions 3, 4 and 4 round-up coming soon
