Champions already under pressure

League News

A 5-2 home win over Brockholes A enabled Shepley A to continue to lead the way in Section A but immediately in their slipstream Crosland Moor retain second place only separated by a lower 'Aggregate For' total. It is clear that Champions Netherton Con are not going to have it all their own way this year as they suffered a 2-5 reversal at Thongsbridge B who clinched the points by virtue of a 92-91 aggregate advantage. The individual performance of the day contributing to that outcome as Maurice Harper produced a whitewash 21-0 winning score.

The Champions find 5 teams ahead of them in the table already and that includes Oakfield with the team performance of the day when white-washing Lindley Lib who have collected one point from their opening 2 matches and are rock-bottom in the early season table. There was only one away win in the top section and that saw Longwood suffer a second defeat and enabled Milnsbridge to leapfrog them leaving Longwood in the second to bottom position.

A second successive 6-1 win for Marsh United saw them open a 4 point lead at the top of Section B with Meltham being the latest opponents to be swept aside by the leaders. One point separates the next four teams with 6-1 home wins for Skel Windmill B and Clayton West enabling them to lead that quartet. New boys Honley Cons are also in that group despite being beaten 2-5 at home by Golcar C&BC who were playing their first match of the season. Section B saw three outstanding pairs scorelines with Barrie Sheard and Chris Brook leading the way with a whitewash 21-0 win for Honley Cons and there were also 21-1 pairs victories for Marsh United and Golcar Lib pairings.

At the time of posting this report the result of the match between Holmfirth A and Shepley B remains outstanding.

Holmfirth B won 4 of the 5 games in their Section C match at Marsh Lib but still lost the aggregate 87-91 to sneak home 4-3 which was good enough to leave them in 2nd place as Almondbury Lib go top after winning 5-2 at Brockholes B. Meanwhile Hemplow move into 3rd spot after beating Thongsbridge A 5-2.
