Review of the 10-Man League matches in Divisions 3, 4 & 5 played on Tuesday 8 August
The top three teams in Division 3 all won their league games this week and are joined by Kirkheaton C&BC 'A' who move into 4th place passing Brockholes 'A' and Paddock I&C on the way. However they are 13 points behind the top three and will need to win bigger at home to bottom two teams to gate-crash the promotion battle. With 8 wins from their last 10 matches the Cricket Club still needed a better Aggregate For total to edge it past the Recreation Club 5-4 who stay in the relegation places.
The top three positions don't change as leaders Golcar Lib 'B' beat Brockholes 'A' 7-2. That extends their lead over Almondbury Lib to 5 points after the Almondbury team made it 7 wins out of 8 away matches when overcoming Slaithwaite 5-4. Denby Dale remain in touch with the top two after a 7-2 home win over Paddock and make it 4 wins from their last 5 fixtures. The leading trio show no signs of slowing down and surely the promoted two-some will come from this three-some.
There was a big win for Lockwood Con 'B' this week when they overwhelmed fellow strugglers, Skel Windmill 8-1 to pass them in the table and move out of the expected relegation places. Meltham 'B' sit at the foot of the table and are 10 points behind their nearest rival but a 5-4 home win over Outlane and a 125-124 aggregate scoreline to thank for that win. The Meltham side have improved their results as the season has progressed but may regret their weak opening when only collecting one win from their first 11 matches which may prove to be their undoing.
The top two teams in Division 4 both had home wins this week but Springwood closed the gap on Lindley Lib 'B' to 4 points after beating Primrose Hill Lib 8-1 whilst the leaders dropped 3 points to bottom of the pile Kirkheaton Con 'B'. Thongsbridge 'B' ended a run of four defeats with a 7-2 away win at Marsh United 'B' who continue to drop away from the promotion places and are now 23 points behind the top two. Marsh Lib are the nearest threat to the top two but are 14 points behind them despite picking up 8 points from their home match with Almondbury BC 'B' this week.
Ravensknowle Park were the only winners in the bottom half of the table as they had a great 8-1 home win over RUBC to move up 3 places to 7th and out of the relegation places. The bottom six teams remain within 8 points of each other so lots of points to be won and lost before this matter gets settled.
The top three teams in Division 5 all won their matches this week to retain the same running order but it is third-placed David Brown Sports that need to start closing the gap to the promotion places after failing to do that this week. A 6-3 away win at New Mill 'B' saw the gap extended as Milnsbridge 'B' and Brockholes 'B' both collected 7 points from their matches. Fourth-placed Netherton Con 'B' had a setback to their own promotion hopes when losing 3-6 at home to Dalton and Holmfirth 'B' collected their second win of the season when beating Kirkheaton C&BC 'B' 6-3 and end an eight-match losing run.
