Winter League
A review of the Winter League Divisions 3 and 4 matches played on Monday
We have new leaders at the top of the Divison 3 table as Brockholes 'A' thrashed Huddersfield Recreation Club 'A' 8-0 to overtake them in the table. That result ended the last 100% win record in the division proving that any team can beat any other team in what looks like being a close competition this season.
However, the table shows a different story for now, as Thorpe Green 'B' join Brockholes as a breakaway twosome after retaining their unbeaten record with a 6-2 win over Almondbury BC 'A'. Both of the top two have already had setbacks in their quest for an early say in promotion affairs but for now they sit proudly at the top but with many tests still to come.
Paddock I&C 'A' are the only Division 3 team still looking for their first win of the season and lost 2-6 for the third consecutive time when going down to Rastrick 'B' who now have the full set of results - won 1 drawn 1 lost 1.
Just 2 points separate the top three teams in Division 4 who are all new to the Winter League this season. For now, it is Marsh Lib leading the way as they overcame Milnsbridge 'B' 6-2 to continue to set the pace at the top. Lindley Lib 'B' and Kirkheaton C&BC remain handily placed and share the second spot on 12 points and both extending their unbeaten records with 6-2 wins. There was only 4 chalks difference in the aggregate scores (61-57) in the Kirkheaton C&BC v Lowerhouses 'B' encounter but that was sufficient for them to claim 6 points and stay well placed at present.
The maximum aggregate score any team can collect in one game is 63 (21 times 3) and Lindley Lib 'B' have claimed 62 and 61 in their two opening matches but they were decisive moments in both games as they resulted in two defeats and four points lost
Four teams are still looking for their first wins of the season after the opening two weeks but there were encouraging signs for Milnsbridge 'B' and Netherton Con 'A' as they took points off the top two teams in the division.
Photos from both of Thorpe Green's Monday matchday will be on the website shortly.
