Veterans League
It is the Quarter-Finals of the 2023 Bistro KO this Thursday and the breakdown of teams left in the competition makes interesting reading. Take a look:
Division No. Teams
1 4
2 1
3 2
4 0
5 1
The draw means that at least one of the lowest-ranked teams will progress to the semi-finals as Milnsbridge 'B' (Division 5) and Lockwood Con 'B' (Division 3) face each other in the quarter-finals with the winner going through to the semi-finals.
Milnsbridge 'B' are a real surprise package this season and before yesterday had lost only one League match all season which has taken them to the top of the Division 5 table. In previous rounds of the Bistro they have eliminated the Divisions 2 and 3 leaders and with a 39-point handicap start no team will relish facing them.
The Milnsbridge 'B' team are looking to emulate the club's 'A' team who are 5 times winners of this competition. Only two B teams have ever won the Bistro in its 40-year history and the last time was in 1999 when Golcar Lib 'B' were victorious.
QUARTER-FINALS Thursday 20 July
Thongsbridge A (+13) v Cowcliffe (+6) on Paddock I&C
Lowerhouses (+6) v Brockholes A (+19) on Almondbury Lib
Longwood (+3) v Lockwood Con A (Sc.) on Lindley Lib
Milnsbridge B (+39) v Lockwood Con B (+19) on Linthwaite Hall
Should Lockwood Con 'B' see off the challenge of the Milnsbridge 'B' team then they could be setting up an intriguing Semi-Final confrontation with the club's 'A' side and a guaranteed place in the Final for a club representative.
The unique 5-Pairs format with handicaps has always produced some shock results and this year is no exception with more shocks in the melting pot awaiting serving on Thursday. Division 1 is guaranteed at least one team through to the quarter-finals as Longwood and Lockwood Con 'A' go head-to-head but it is conceivable that they could be the only Division 1 representative still in contention come Thursday evening.
The Semi-Finals take place on Thursday 17 August but for now, all eyes are on the Quarter-Finals and we await the outcomes before speculation can turn to even more shocks.
